Spot on. And punishes other clubs whilst a top team yet again wins. It is something the AFL absolutely should be pushing back hard against.
The Veale Deal
Free agency with no matching is a scam. Top team gets top player and doesn’t need to pay anything. What a great idea.
Should skip the finals, straight to trade week and then onto draft.
And you have to wonder how desperate WCE would get if that’s the case. How much would they pay to jump up a few places.
You make him sound like Dylan Clarke.
I’ve seen him live 8 times. His kicking is fine.
We definitely need more pace - and that’s Drever but he isnt the best ball user of the elite. But as @noobermensch says no one has everything
They will do that…….when we try something like this.
Ok, work with me on this one…
If Geelong and Hawthorn were both bundled out as soon as possible, thereby strengthening their draft hands, could we possibly get the deal for pick 4 done by offering more than just the Hawks first pick and 19 to encourage Port to force a trade with Geelong? Maybe throw in Hawthorn’s second too. Suppose Geelong forked over their next 3 first rounders, could this work?
Port In: Geelong R1, Hawthorn R1 and R2, Geelong F1, Geelong FF1, 19
Port Out: Butters, Pick 4
Essendon In: Pick 4
Essendon Out: Merrett, 19
Geelong In: Butters
Geelong Out: R1, F1, FF1
Hawthorn In: Merret
Hawthorn Out: R1, R2
We let Cochrane slide. Port then match a bid 3 pick with the Hawthorn and Geelong first rounders and pocket 19 and the Hawks second. They also get to go on a couple of Geelong deathrides which will provide currency Zemes Pilot.
Dont anyone dare suggest using pick 1 on a ruck.
That might make me ask to be permanently banned from this site
There’s a few around here that are suggesting that.
Send it to Rosa
You don’t see much wrong in Port Adelaide taking the band 1 compensation and then Geelong offloading their first round pick from this year and next year to make up the draft difference?
I don’t believe you.
Easy to prove as well. Geelong don’t have the draft picks to satisfy Port and so Port take the free agency. Then out of nowhere Geelong express interest in trading for a fringe Port player and offer multiple 1st round picks for them. All within a week or 2 of eachother.
Again, it doesn’t have to be this year.
Nothing stopping Port getting compo this year and then next year Geelong cough up a first for a Marshall etc. There are plenty of ways around it and there are always little side deals going on in the background.
Our draft haul has copped a battering this week. No end of first comp and Hawthorn’s pick will start at 17/18.
Why I think we tell the Hawks two first rounds picks or we hold him - unless we like the pick 17 with 2 x 2nd round option better . I think Hawks end up agreeing
I think what we will want is their 2027 first to help us get an NGA kid in.
Yeah….I’ve grown to expect the worst more often than not when it comes to Essendon but it’s been a real kick to the nuts this week.
