I think his kicking is better than half the senior list.
If there’s a question mark on him (which there has to be) it’s his pace.
I think he showed enough to earn a crack. He was excellent in the prelim and countless other games.
I don’t think he’s an especially good 1v1 defender but he is good at zoning off and impacting in the air. I’d sooner have him down back playing that role rather than Langford or Redman or even Ridley (who I’ve always thought plays his best footy on the main target)
He really reminds me a lot of Lav. Undersized, brave, very strong on contest, prone to burn fart. I do think he is a decent kick though - can really dart them.
FWIW, Bris recruiting manager Stephen Conole was on Gettable yesterday.
Said there’s 7-8 right at the top, that Drever & Mellody stick out (outside of the club-tied boys) because their whole year has been really strong re what they’ve done for teams across various groups.
Then has the Dragons kids straight after that (so Butler & Tex).
Drever does feel like the most logical guess for us atm. Butler & Tex with interrupted years. Mellody the better user & more versatile but up against the local lad with wheels.
If we drop back to 4+5, I would’t be surprised to see us go for Tex and Harris, we could even auction off pick 5 to clubs wanting the best KPD, with Melbourne and norf keen we could swap 5 + 15 for 7+10 or similar.
Butler would have been top 10 for agility, 20m and leap tests. Teixiera top 10 for leap I asked for his 20m but apparently didn’t do it at the start of the year.
Could be our version of Wharfie Time next year, having a player ready to burn one on the field. Certainly would retain some crowd interest when we are 60 points down in the 2nd QTR at a home game.
I would call it afterburn time.
It gets initiated after the match is effectively over, and there would be an accompanying animation of a fighter jet with afterburners on the screen. Once it has been initiated, all members get 10% off at the Bomber Shop for a three minute window.
