2026 draft thread - WE ARE NOT TRADING OUR FIRST PICK! READ THE NEW DRAFT RULES

If there was a world we could change 1 and a pick at the end of the first round into 2 and 4 you would do it in a heart beat and burn the compo.

Getting multiple picks in the top 5 is very hard to get. If that’s on the table because of the NGA implications port or Carlton face then we should jump on it.

the afl will likely give us compo to help us have our fill of players at the draft anyway. And probably if we still stink it up they would be open to picks in 2027.

There’s enough argument here and on any draft podcast/coverage in the media to say it’s an even top end group.

We ain’t trading away a swing at Harley Reid this year.

Arki is the one. Even with pick 1 I think he fits our list need the most. Can come in next year and be best 23 player round 1. I’d take Tex next and then Drever.

100% on the Butler train.

Use this draft on small forwards and a key defender.

Really hope this kid Prasad makes it, it will be good promotion for our game to the local Indian community if he does. He has a lot of tricks, but he is just so small and light might be the issue.

He supported us as a kid?

That’s all the proof I need

Have a few friends with Kids who play on the peninsula in this age group and the buzz about Prasad in the Under 12’s/under 14’s that he was one of the best Junior footballers that alot of people had seen. Was smallish but not as small as he is compared to his peers today but was really quick. Was he highly rated going into this season as a small forward but got injured and just came back I think. @noobermensch what do you think his draft projection will be.

@Tommy_Wolfe great work.

I wouldn’t say he was highly rated coming into this year. He had a pretty big U16 champs from memory, but the concerns around size have been increasing as he’s moved up the age groups without having a growth spurt.

I’d like us to have a look at him with a later pick if we still have list spots available. His talent level is very good. The lack of size probably limits any positional versatility, he’ll likely have to make it as a small forward which makes him a bit risky. He’s shown that he can stick tackles and his pace makes him dangerous with chase downs. I think he’s definitely worth a shot.

would be qualify as catB?
(not that we have spare catB spots)

I think the play would be
#1 HVH

then move up hawks first (Merrett), 19,20(afl compo for being poor) to Ports Pick 4.

Hypothetical draft
1 Walker
2 HVH (1) Ess
3 Cochrane
4 Teixeira (2) Rich
5 Snell (eagles)
6 Butler Ess (acquired from Port)
7 Drever Demons (Suns pick)

HVH + Butler + Bradley
plus then at 21 compo pick for being pushed back, get Tyson Bradley

Sorry - had to do it.

Kid has some “SWAGGER”

He has genuine Swagger as opposed to the clubs faux Swagger

if Rosa can pull that off i’d be both happy and well impressed.

Would people prefer to offload 3 later first round/end of first picks for another top 6 pick should the opportunity arise or keep those picks?

That doesnt work. If we’re bidding on Cochrane at pick 1, Port wont be trading away pick 4 to us for picks in the late teens as it won’t leave them with enough points to match.

Let’s work out how we take both of them!!

oh well swap walker in at 1 then.

I think Butters would need to be traded and they get another first. We would need to commit to not picking him so they get 800 point discount (he gets selected at pick 3). A lot would need to go right for us to make it work.

He didn’t qualify as an NGA, so I’d assume that he also doesn’t qualify as a cat B, but I’m not a rules expert.

@SplitRound ?

Towmey was discussing possiblity of a club trading another Port player in for overs, and Port getting compo pick for Butters.
For example.
Out: Butters In: Pick 5 compo
Out: Ollie Lord In: Cats first round pick (Lord Grew up supporting Geelong, (Grandfather won a Brownlow, Dad spent 2 years on the cats list).
