2026 draft thread - WE ARE NOT TRADING OUR FIRST PICK! READ THE NEW DRAFT RULES

Have you actually looked closely at either of the Petracca or Curnow trades? Yes Blues got Hayward, but they also had to trade 31, 42 and a 2027 2nd.

I thought his kicking skills were excellent in that game so we must be on a different page here. He had three kicks that didn’t hit his intended target. One was smothered, one was a shank when he was trying to kick inboard, but the ball ended up getting to his man anyway, and one was a snap out of congestion. There was that kick off the ground at goal while being tackled.

I imagine his DE% would have been 80+.

I suppose Sydney being top two isn’t looking as good it was in November for Carlton.

But blues are using the picks they got to match bids for top 3 rated plays in draft 2025 and 2025.

The Merrett trade offer did not give us that level of flexibility as we didn’t have that level of academy kids.

IMO if the Merrett deal included guaranteed top 10 picks then we would have made the trade. Top 10 2025, top 10 2026 and some change.

But the offer has turn out to be late teens picks if not some picks in the 20s for 26 and 27

But the point is this: the narrative that the Hawks offer was no where close to the other trades, isn’t accurate once you look a bit closer at the actual trades. Though as I said, it depends on how you value second round picks.

None of the Dees or Blues got a top 10 pick (everyone knew the Dees picks would blow to 11 and 12 on draft night).

Yes Dees got better picks than us, but they had to also trade 24, 28 and a F2 to get them. If I remember correctly, Hawks were only asking for a future 4th as well as Merrett

to be fair, I got distracted just before half way, so the open play disposals may have got lost.

thanks for the feedback

I’d say overall he’s an above average kick, both field kick and shot for goal. Minor question on penetration. From what I’ve seen he’s quite poised under pressure.

There seem to be so many similar mid/fwd types in this pool, all pushing into the first round. We should pick at least one and show Perkins the door.

I don’t think they were asking for anything back.

For what it’s worth, Gus is apparently a big Bombers fan too.

Bad decision maker. Do not want.

You can’t drop a guy, not play him and then ask a top 5 pick…well, you can, but you should be a laughing stock for it.

If tigers get Madden they may over look Van Hattum at the draft

forget Darcy Wilson and his draft pick, if you wanted a Saint, go after Max Hall or Hugo Garcia

we can still trade our second rounder + F3 and maybe arrange a pick swap on night 2.

I know Max’s mum (who’s a legend), he was desperate to get to Hawthorn who had the next pick in the MSD, but is loving it at the Saints.

Agree that he’d be a great get but can’t see that happening.

Going a bit wider this week to cover some prospects that haven’t had a look in yet on the channel. A top 20 contender, Harrison Leeder is a slightly undersized but athletic marking forward who competes hard in the air and loves to fly for big, contested grabs. In this game he was the Knights main avenue to goal, drawing the footy almost every time they went forward, and while he didn’t always clunk the mark he was never beaten by his opponent, bringing the ball to ground for his smalls to feast and occasionally follow up himself. He ended up kicking three majors of his own to round off a solid display.

Cal Twomey suggesting he sees some “holes” in this draft crop after some of the prospects right at the top end in Walker, Cochrane, HVH, Williams, Teixeira. Butler not mentioned in this crop. But still early days with clubs awaiting Champs.

Yeh so far, the draft class hasn’t really been standing out from maybe a select group of around 5-6. I still think 2025 class was underrated

Koby LeCras out with partial ACL tear.

Really enjoyed what I saw from him. Disappointing for sure.

Could be a good end of first round pick up?

I dont think he showed enough to get that high to be honest. He was trending upwards after some solid play for the Academy, but without any Champs form he’ll likely slide.
