I have faith in McVeigh but little faith in the board.
And yeah I do ■■■■ and moan about the club and will continue to do so if they make poor errors but I’m more talking about posters blaming the AFL for everything. We are in this position thanks mostly to our mistakes.

Arguably has been asked to take on far bigger tasks than he should, and now returning to dominating in his natural weight class and being the general back there. Also has shown vulnerability in the press and now the umps aren’t calling him on his ludicrous staging for frees like they used to. They’re a canny outfit the Hawks.
Was also probably the best player on the ground.

I hate them but theyve gotten to this point by putting in the hard yards and making the brutal decisions, difference between us and them. No handouts either

He’s the captain of the club, he generals their backline, and is a counter attacking weapon.
He’s entitled to strut around a bit if he likes. He walks the walk.

100% agree. Look at how Hawthorn have gone about it.
They have an experienced defence, many of who they targeted through trade/FA (bolded).
- Sicily- 31
- Hardwick- 29
- Barrass- 30
- Battle- 28
- Amon- 31
- Impey- 31
- Weddle (the exception) 22
They have done well with top picks- Day, Watson, Mackenzie, Ward.
They have recruited role players- Ginnivan, d’DAmbrosio, Chol
They appear to have had a clear list strategy, a recent innovation at Essendon, which still needs a considerable amount of work before even considering the talent within that list.
They have a great coaching team, that both develops players, but also often outcoaches the opposition on game day. Not just Mitchell, but the whole team. They clearly prioritise developing their coaches too, not by giving them different roles each year, but by providing and encouraging educational opportunities, particularly in the offseason.
Look at the players on their list, and you can see clear year-on-year improvement in most of them, regardless of age. It couldn’t be more different to Essendon, where we have half a dozen players who have peaked for a season then regressed.
