Haven’t seen enough to be definitive but have seen enough to suggest he definitely behind Hepp and Kelly. I know you don’t rate Kelly but he has been playing an excellent role for us this year.
I’d have him well above ADJ though.
If we were 14th on the ladder I’d wholeheartedly agree. But we are 4th and we should be solely focussed on win now, not blooding kids.
Roberts also has good goal sense and could easily replace Menzies as an introduction to the team up forward and when Martin needs to come forward Roberts to the half back.
I watched the replay last night, i like his aggression, but he slaps it on the boot a fair bit for mine, plus he is very left sided. I think he’ll be a good player, but agree with some others, don’t think he is ready yet.
the issue i had with your statements last week weren’t to do specifically with roberts, altho I will say i don’t mind the way he goes about it.
it’s about the actions itself of blanket statements that flip flop between player to player that essentially keep moving the goal posts for what some youngsters have to do to actually get a game.
It’s about getting as much development as possible into players who should be there beyond next year, while there are small gaps for them to do so.
I’m not tsartas biggest fan, however when setterfield went out after the geelong game, he should have been brought in to play the role shiel is, cos at the end of it yeah we got a win against collingwood sure, what did we get out of it against melbourne, now that there’s a loss ?
all we learnt is what we already know about shiel, and the cominbations he brings to the side.
I think there’s enough of a decent core there, that can now cover introducing these younger guys into the system and cover their pervceived shortcomings, and if it doesn’t, at least your learning what they can bring, and hopefully encouraging them to get better quicker by dangling the carrot of playing infront of them.
Last week you said he’s not ready and should spend the rest of the year in the vfl (or words to those effects) - surely one VFL half didnt change your mind?
I said i can see reasons for what Brad is thinking with a new role on the wing - he may want to develop him all year. I was more on Hayes for
Me not being ready… which seems pretty clear to me tbh. Last week Roberts played a half down back and on Sunday played a full game down back. So that now does make me think Scott maybe open to him at half back. There is where a possible spot could come.
