Great news. Fancy an Essendon defender even being noticed the AFL.
Well I gues as he was 4th highest rated player on the ground they really had to notice him
But I reckon he is very cool down back after just 8 games .
I like it how he said he is working hard on his 1 on 1 defending. He is already way ahead of more experienced players we have tried down there like Nik Cox and even Dylan Shiel, who for some reason just seems inept as a defender.
Fairly handy mentor helping him out with his 1 v 1 and overall defensive game - B Scott very accomplished in his day and a mongrel to go with it.
There’s no doubt he’d be directing Archie how best to apply his mongrel.

The best thing I like about this Archie is he is a competitor. Has a 100% go at every contest.

A celebratory post on Archie Roberts still turns into pot shots at Dylan Shiel.
Shiel shifted away from defence after round 2 and has been one of best players since. Ok, now back to Archie…

Reckon they could be related
Shiel has been important the last 2 games. But I was quite surprised at how, after training across half back in the preseason, and how he looked pretty good in defence, he did not perform well back there in actual games.
Shiel is one of our top 3 clearance mids, in terms of winning the ball, but not one of our best midfielders in terms of damage by foot.
So we are in this bind where to use him, if we use him we look better, but Hobbs and Tsatas do not develop as fast.
And now back to Archie. He is pretty much cemented in down there now.
we simply needed to trade out Shiel in last 2 years to avoid this problem and we haven’t. And now with injuries to Parish and Caldwell it looks as though Tsatas will still miss out, not ideal. But need to reward form and let Tsatas get 40 odd in VFL.
Bonus is this week is Satuday night game on channel 7 - footy for everyone.

I like O’Sullivan, but Mackie? He’s about 2m tall!

He’s not really a KPD, though.
He plays more as a rebounding defender ala Mackie I reckon. Definitely taller, but similar style.
I think he looks like a classic key position player in the making. Obviously needs to fill out a bit like any second year key prospect, but has a great frame to build on.
Rising star will be Levi Ashcroft.
He will get extra kudos breaking into the grand final side.
