#21 Dyson "Go jam it” Heppell - 200th game this week (Part 1)

He’s really stepped it up in the 2nd half the year just quietly. Winning clean clearances for us on the back of a nice understanding with Bellchambers. Yesterday he was brilliant, a real captains game stepping up in the last especially the last 5-10mins.

He was great yesterday but if anyone thinks that he played a better game yesterday than he did in round one then you must have a very short memory.

This week he did imprint himself on the game qtr by qtr and was absolutely Hirdlike in the last clearance after clearance after clearance

Playing to his strengths,he’s not fast, but he’s damn good overhead, has a great left foot and is brilliant positioning around a contest

one of, if not his best game for the club, him and tippa held carlton at bay

Had a great game, and I fear he’s going to need to even better it against Adelaide if we’re to get up.

Watching the replay now and as a few have mentioned he’s getting that floating marking ability back which he hasn’t seemed to have for the majority of the year. Always a sign of him at his best - need a massive game out of him on Saturday if we’re to pinch it.

I think he is a very very good player, extremely difficult to match up on… hence the holding frees given away from the opposition.

But he really needs to work on his team awareness… 3 times against Adelaide he intercepted handballs not meant for him, from players much better positioned around the packs than him.

I think he is a good player and no-one can question his determination and commitment to the club. But he needs to lift in terms of his ability to hurt with his disposals. Disposals were terrible against the Crows after a good game against to Blues. Topped the team in clangers with Myers.

To be fair he wasn’t on his lonesome in a team that seemed really rattled by perceived pressure from the opposition.

Is currently the most underrated player at the club.

a) He is not playing at the level he was producing in 2014
b) his season has still been considerable in terms of his influence on results
b) His future output for the club will be profound and his leadership exulted.
c) it seems a lot of people have forgotten how much of a bona fide Inside midfielder he actually is.
d) paradoxically he has not been deployed as an inside midfielder for the majority of this year (refer to HAP analysis frequently this year).
e) Look out for him to produce his finest performance in our finals campaign
f) The best is yet to come for our 25 year old Captain
g) Profit

Hepp is already a great captain and we were very lucky to have such a ready made character to lead the boys when Jobe stood down. Watch him flourish now as we take revenge against the ugly swans.

Couldn’t agree more, especially on point C and D. With Jobe retiring, he will take over as the #1 inside midfielder and hopefully resume his 2014 output either next year or 2019. This year has just been a year where he not only needs to find his feet again after the year off but also discover who he is as a captain in his first year.

Dois knows how to juggle his work/life balance. Here he is punching out a quick reply to his socials whilst in the marking contest.

To be fair, when you play with blokes who have consistently struggled to hit targets, it is difficult to judge if a ball is or is not intended for you.

seems Hepps is really comfortable with the gig. Not afraid to let others into the spotlight (Jobe, Zach…) be it in huddles, media, etc. really does seem the ultimate team-first type of guy.

Yep, he is a good captain.

If, as some have suggested here, he needs that additional pre-season to get back to top form. Then I think everyone will be extremely happy with him by the end of next year. Has a wonderful balance about him as a person, a leader, and a footballer.

He just hasn’t quite been able to drag us kicking and screaming to wins off his own back this year. But he was at that level in 14/15, so has it in him.

Will go to another level in finals footy.

There seems to be a raft of players now that we have who look like they will absolutely excel the higher the pressure and the bigger the game.

Zach, Dys, Andy. The bigger the game the better the performance.
