#22 - Jake Carlisle: Gone

I think we need to be really grateful that Saints want him, Pick 5 is better than anything we would get from Carlscum. Here's hoping that Carlisle wants the big $$ contract and they get the trade done fast. The fact that Saints are also chasing another deal, makes it more likely they'll be keen to get it done quickly.

I think pick 5 is more than reasonable in the circumstances. Another interesting trade idea being floated on trade whispers is: Carlisle + our 2nd Rounder = Pick 5 and Saints 1st Rounder next year. The theory being that it gives Saints room to on-trade that pick for Freeman and still have a top 30 pick this year. Otherwise they may struggle to justify not having any picks in the first two rounds this year.

We then pick up a 2nd Rounder for Melksham and end up with 3 picks inside top 25 this year, plus 2 first rounders next year.

We ain’t getting 2 first round picks. 1 if we’re lucky.

Our 2nd rounder this year is pick #23… Saints are hoping to rise to Top 8 next year… so their first round pick is likely to be somewhere along the lines of pick 10. You then factor in the “pick this year is more valuable than next year” formula (well documented in US sports) and really what you are suggesting is that Carlisle is worth Pick 5 this year and an 8 pick ‘demotion’ next year.

I’m not saying Saints will jump at it… but these are the kinds of deals that future pick trading allows for. Teams banking on getting better/worse and then making plays accordingly.

Personally I would take pick 5 and run, considering ourselves lucky that we didn’t get screwed by FarkCarlscum

I'd take next years 1st rounder plus next years 2nd rounder for jake and this years third. Whilst they are improving I reckon their ladder position might stagnate and could get worse, with any luck I reckon we'll be 8th to 12th next year and no way will gcs be as bad. I don't know what the predictions are about next years draft but I think deferring at least one of our late picks till next year plus improving our position would work well
I wouldn't gamble on that. The Saints look to add Freeman, Carlisle, Hrovat and whoever they get at pick 5 would see them rise up the ladder this year. Just remember, McCartin barely played and Billings didn't get a good run at it either.

I’d take this year’s pick and be content that we know what we’re getting.

I remain staggered by the idea that anyone thinks Carlisle isn't worth at least pick 5. If he was from any other team and available in the draft, you'd happily spend our pick 4 on him.
He's worth what the market will offer.

If he was a commodity in a free market that would be true, but most commodities don’t get to decide which customer they get sold to. If he nominates Carlton and goes to the PSD, that doesn’t make him worth nothing. It just means we got nothing for him.

As I said, if Carlton offer him enough dosh he locks them in & dicks us, that's what he's worth, that's what the market will offer.

Some list management guy on SEN this morning reckons St Kilda should try and work a pick 10 or 11 for Carlisle and not give up their pick 5. Not sure how they'll make that happen since they're trying to bring in players from other clubs and will have to give up either picks or players. Richardson clearly rates Carlisle and wants him bad. How good would picks 4 and 5 be? #ifonly

I’m happy for future picks to be included as part of the deal but only as the part that gets it over the line not the main part.

Would Jake go at 5 if he was in the draft?

Saints guy on trade radio seemed pretty determined to do the Carlisle deal first up before settling on anybody else, Collingwood will get what's left for freeman.

They will start with first this year and end up giving 5 and steak knives.

If we take next year pick then I think that puts Foggys OMeara play into overdrive.

Reckon Saints would prefer to give next year’s pick and we would take it.
I’d be happy with either.

KISS principle.

Get it done.

Pick 5 for Carlisle.

Move on.

Jake is gone alright

No

Have St Kilda confirmed that there pick 5 is off the table?, I keep getting myself more and more excited that we will get it.

No, because Carslile has not confirmed his preferred club. Woosha might change his mind. People might remember in 1992 that Harvs was gonna go to North Melbourne, he changed his mind and won AA CHB and a premiership. Carslile is capable of the first, but the second might be a bit of a stretch!

Pick 5 and swap their 4th for our 3rd for Carlisle.
That would be fair.
