Former #22 Matthew Leuenberger

I'd like to see him run forward a bit more and kick a few goals. He did it at Brisbane, and it would sure help us out a bit.

He’s a garbage forward. Have you not noticed his contested marking is pretty ordinary?

Yes you are right his contested marking is very ordinary. But as a resting ruckman he does very well off the ball helping our forwards get space. You can’t see it on TV, at the game you see him blocking and running to make some well.

I think it’s one of the things I look forward to when belly returns. Having a tap ruckman who can take a grab.

Listed as “achilles soreness”. Looks like we will see a lot of Jamar from now on.

Wouldnt be surprised if we gave him a break until after the bye.

Averaging 26.7 hitouts a game. More than Ryder ever did.

Starting to get his mojo back around the ground too.

His efforts and performances have been pretty impressive and to this point justified his recruitment. Always gives an honest contest. Seems like his worst moments are when he ends up receiving a handball as if he’s a midfielder!

He’s tapwork is fantastic. Be awesome if he could develop his forward game a bit

His tap work would be even awesomer if he could tap it to one of our guys every now and then.

When we get our midfield back that wont’ be happening anymore.

Has been an excellent pick up. Can’t believe anyone thinks otherwise

Do not understand this mentality. What do jobe/myers/heppell/hocking have that magically makes luey tap it to them that parish/zaka/zerrett dont?

Its luenenbergers job to tap it to the midfielders. Whether its a bush league bloke or gary ablett, it doesnt change lueys ability to tap the footy

Outstanding season. Rarely lowers his colours.

More grunt and experience?

The ability to block and protect the space that Leuenberger is tapping towards?
The ability to read where Leuenberger is trying to tap to their advantage and move towards that space?
The ability to read when they should be roving off Leuenberger’s hands or the opposition rucks hands?
I’m pretty sure they’re not inanimate objects. Last I checked Gary Ablett has had a truck load of clearances from below average rucks. I don’t think we can credit the Smith’s of the world for Ablett’s clearance ability.

What? never criticised Lueys’ tap work.

Guys listen to Simon Madden talk about ruck work. It’s very much a 2 way relationship. Yes it’s Leuy’s job to tap to a pre arranged position, it’s then the mids job to make sure they are there to receive it.

Exactly. Must be a lot of occasions where Leuy has thought “Where the ■■■■ were you?” when he’s won the tap. You can’t simply tap it to anywhere in a 360 degree radius in a ruck contest.

He has been ok, but he is a serious downgrade in Ryder.

Ryder had Watson, Hocking and co to tap to who had a lot of time together.

Ryder was a much better ruck man/forward.
