#23 Harrison Jones

Decency in here? Wow, I must have joined the wrong forum. I’ve read many of the rooms in this place, strong views are rather common across team, administration, players, coaching, finances, revenue streams. But that’s fine, I’m lacking awareness of commenting on my opinion of Harrison Jones.

Sorry, but I don’t see the need to fawn all over a guy who was drafted in 2019, has never been more than a middling to pseudo interesting and injury prone player across 5 seasons, will be 24 by the time the next season starts and on the balance of probability is not going to make any serious difference to the performance of the team.

But that’s fine, I apologise for my harshness in this circumstance, and apologise again for not spewing forth a ray of sunshine in the direction of young Harry.

Yeah there are a few that have lost sight of that, for better or worse, I guess people just DGAF about others as much as they used to these days

Great - but you also have nothing better to be doing than coming in here randomly in late October to take a proverbial dump on him for no real reason at all, funny that

Thats my major issue with Jones. Is involved for the first half of the game, but then you forget he is even playing in the second half

What on earth are you talking about? There are a dozen threads going right now with contributors giving opinions of every player on the list. McGrath is rubbish and can’t kick, 2MP needs to go, trade Parish he can’t kick, Gresham is a waste of money, McKay was embarrassing in the second half of the season.

What do you think people are doing in the Football Discussion threads in the off season? We are commenting on players, the team overall, trades and draft.

Maybe you need a couple of weeks off out of here.

Some rich and compelling discussion here.

No, apparently we aren’t allowed to discuss players in the offseason, even if it actually was rich and compelling.

What’s your view of Jones? Please pretend we are currently in season, so it is relevant.

He can look very good down the wing as a long lead. If he gets some clear air he can clunk a nice mark or two, but his decision making is very limited from that point. Once it hits the ground he’s not going to be the type to be a quality possession type out in the expanses of the wing. I don’t believe he will make it all in that position. If he was to be effective he needs to be our answer to Naughton, high flying, grabbing regular inside 50 marks and reaching north of 35 goals in a season, but I can’t see him doing it.

Apologies to choppsuey, and Duplicity just pretend it’s early August and the season is still live.

10th in the B&F
5th in the Nobby

Sure, he needs to improve, but a young tall coming off serious LTIs who has shown significant improvement is not getting offloaded for some late picks.
What are they smoking barry?

Oh my lawl

Literally excusing your own toxicity cause “everyone’s doing it…”

No to wing
Yes to CHF

Boot Wright out of the club

Build fwd line around Caddy, Kako, Jones (Shanahan)

Perkins as full time goal kicking HFF (effectively replacing Stringer)

Trial McGrath as an upgrade on Menzie as a defensive small fwd.

Langford in forward pocket

Boot Gresham

Guelfi to defence as a Kelly replacement

Buy back into the draft for Shanahan as insurance if Jones fails in this, the final year of his contract

Floats forward off his wing with a mismatch, takes a grab and kicks a goal.
Happens in the first quarter. Backslaps and smiles all round in the coaches box as they all tell Brad he is a mastermind strategist.
The opposition adjust and it doesn’t happen again for the rest of the game.
Or the next week. Then it happens again and Brad gets his sugar hit of coaching genius. Repeat for half the season. Meanwhile for the other 7 quarters we persist with a player that doesn’t have the speed, endurance or agility required for the position, whose direct opponent invariably racks up possessions at will.
In 2025, above all else, I want to see us use players in their best most preferred position, and if that position is unavailable then they play VFL.
If Jones can’t play as a roaming half forward because we prefer others in the position, or if he is not having the impact we expect from our roaming half forward, then he plays VFL.

Oh grow up. I was talking about jones and you made it about me.

Get back on topic or have a lie down.

I don’t disagree with a lot of this. Caddy is the centre of whatever the forward line will be from now on, he’s got that touch of something special. Kako we will see. Perkins has to grab hold of the HFF with a bit of time in the midfield as a rotation.

I don’t agree with McGrath in the forward line, I do like him back when he sticks to his assignment, to me that’s playing your guys in their best possible position. Guelfi could actually be a good defender, never thought to make him the option in backline.

The forum is more negative than positive. Not sure what anyone would expect with our performances for ever so long. If you’re looking for feel good stories or “wellness” then it probably isn’t the place to go! Maybe go to the club website or AFL

No it’s worse than that, I was explicitly told I shouldn’t be discussing a player in the player thread in the offseason, for reasons.

Yeah, I’m not high on Jones, and rather than tell me I’m wrong I’m being told I’m negative. Jesus save me.

It’s not a person saying it. It’s just a meme!

Anyway, how about those Mets…

We seem to see that often with our list. Jones does some real classy work a couple of times in a quarter and attacks the ball well, but then that is it for the game.

Perkins plays a ball buster games and then goes missing for the rest of the season. Many others had similar seasons.

Not a wingman.
Stands out by taking a couple of backline outlet marks-stands out because no other Ess player does this.
Then creates a mis-match roaming into forward line.
However, it is not a regular occurence, and he isnt accumulating possessions down the wing or providing run.
Should be in the forward line, but then we have the issue of too many talls

I think we can all agree that when Jones is in the play, he makes a difference and that he needs to work on being in the play more often to take the next step. To say he is useless isn’t accurate.
