Must have dangerously loose ligaments!

Question for @Eastie_Boi1 - can this be taped to protect and if so why wouldn’t it have been done prophylactically?

Good news for the VFL side!

Good effort to have a green whistle out to him ASAP, pain would’ve been ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , assume the medicos carry them in the jacket for this exact reason

Only one month out. Incredible. A miracle, truly.
So happy for Harry. He can give our socials a touch up and be back in no time.

He’s be back quicker than Ridley & Parish? Surely not. Very happy for him if so

Everybody is forgetting the Essendon tax that gets whacked on the end of all our injuries. Sure, they say it could be 4 weeks… we know better.

All VFL & AFL players have their ankles taped for insurance purposes.

Wow, that’s terrific news. I thought it was a broken leg.

Sorry not clear - I was assuming there’d be some kind of taping. I meant enough to stop that injury given his apparently loose ligaments? I mean what more can be done in future? Well I did also mean why couldn’t enough have been done beforehand in this instance?

Most of the research I’ve seen points to the effects of the tape wearing off pretty quickly due to it stretching. I’ve basically casted guys ankles before and 15 minutes later the tape is all floppy so it tracks.
Next step up would be a brace, but for the most part it will be strengthening and proprioceptive exercises.
Having watch the reply a few times now, think he was done in by the knee staying locked out rather than having a bit of give. In the same situation I think I would have tumbled 2 or 3 times into the fence which isn’t ideal but better than his injury!

I still call bulldust on this. Ankle twist no matter how low grade it is, is very rare. This is coming from someone who used twist his ankle nearly once every 4 weeks. I strengthened it and have never done an ankle twist since (touch wood). I’ve hardly ever see ankle twists in other players. If people do twist it, they don’t show it

Happy that Harry will be back sooner than feared. Still think the club will be conservative with this injury. I’d expect to see him play VFL in 6-8 weeks time.

I think 4 is ambitious given the vision. But great he is lucky enough to. Not do massive damage, I was sure it was 12 months +

Surely he can just hit the gym for 6 weeks.and put on a couple of Kgs??? Seriously like what else can he do

Zero chance he is back to full training in four weeks

Confirmed foot fracture on the Essington website.
Think Cleary has pulled 4 weeks out of his arse to be honest.

Doing a bit of reading;

  • 99.64% of ankle dislocations are associated with a fracture (so no wonder I’ve never seen an isolated dislocation!)
  • about half opt for non-operative management-
  • average immobilisation (eg cast or cam boot) time is 6-7 weeks
  • 12 month outlook seems ok

Makes sense.
Thought it was pretty unlikely to be isolated dislocation.
