I think he offers more to the team than Myers, both short and long term.

You should stop thinking.

Yeah
Nah

Myers at his best is a level up from Bird.

Point of difference is the left leg.

Now I know youā€™re pretty daft, and whist I do enjoy you following me around on Blitz and mentioning me in random threads, thereā€™s an obvious answer cockwomble.

You know how everyone was wanting Big Boi Begley in to debut? And then jokingly voicing their disappointment hence that entire thread? Explaining jokes is fun. Derp.

When Myers was at his best, Bird played in a permanent fixture in a Premiership team. But current form is more important than past deeds.

Myersā€™ limitations are being exposed at AFL level, and I doubt there is a silver bullet to fix his agility, one-sidedness and lack of versatility.

I just donā€™t know where Myers fits in at AFL level. Bird provides inside grunt and defensive midfield attributes.

Based on personal experience I gather.

I think they (along with Hocking and Howlett) are fighting for the same spot and Myers is the better of that lot.

Iā€™m not sure form from 5 years ago means much at all. Let alone at a completely different club.

I reckon Bird can do a run with role, play as defensively minded mid or as a defensive forward.

What roles do you think Myers can play? I reckon his lack of versatility is a real issue.

I actually agree with you WD, long term I think Myers will be pushed out, but He deserves a couple more weeks yet to see what heā€™s got. He found it 30 times 2 weeks ago which was a huge positive imo, Iā€™m not sure he can produce that week in week out but Iā€™d say weā€™ll really see where heā€™s at the next 3 or so weeks

I think weā€™re a 5 goal better side since we stopped playing slow small blokes who donā€™t kick goals as forwards. And good riddance, about as sorely missed as Steven Dank for mine.

Whoā€™s the better dedicated tagger or defensive forward is a moot point.

Even the best mids need to be able to play other roles. If youā€™re an average mid like Myers, itā€™s essential.

In which case Langford is streets in front of all of them, can play half back, half forward, marking target, wing - almost any role on the park.
No?

You pick guys for a role, week to week. Itā€™s nice for them if they can do more than one, but as weā€™ve seen, Woosha almost exclusively sets guys in one position until they get it right. And weā€™ve not picked a specialist tagger or tagging forward in his first year and a bit, not sure why you think itā€™s going to start now. Just to save Craig birdā€™s career.

Iā€™d love to see him make it. He seems like one of the best blokes in the side. But Iā€™d rather win games of footy.

I think his numbers were good a few weeks ago, but his impact on the game low. He is so easily corralled when he has the ball and a liability when the opposition have it and are spreading.

He is one-sided, but itā€™s not just that he doesnā€™t have much of a right foot, his handball skills let us down badly when we are trying to move the ball quickly through the corridor. On one occasion last weekend he was stuck on his right side and he failed to make connection with a regulation right-handed handball. I would hazard a guess that his disposal efficiency is quite low.

Compared to Bird, Iā€™d say Bird is a better defensive player, a better ball user, more capable of playing different roles, wins more the ball and makes better decisions. Myers has his left hoof when afforded space, which doesnā€™t seem to be very often. Because he takes so long to execute his kicking action, he really needs a paddock to use deploy his weapon.

Myers would want to figure it out because heā€™s contracted until the end of time.

Myers had 6 clearances against st kilda. Game high and doubled. Bird.
He had 10 contested, double bird.

I cant see myers being dropped on that basis tbh. Clearances are like gold.
