Probably got his thumb caught in a jumper while tackling ……ligament damage to the digits can happen this way and has happened in the past
■■■■■■■ under armour
Time to sack Murphy then, surely.
If so then it’s just stupidy to be tackling. We have never tackled before, so why start now
The secret is, never try.
Either jumper injury or ball hitting the thumb in marking. Likely medial ligament injury called “ Game-keepers Thumb”.
In Cal we trust!
I didn’t buy into it. I did not want to spend all of my panic dollars early, I reckon we have better panic investments down the track.
Keeping my panic dry at this stage.
Didn’t have a full pre-season: Nick Bryan.
Lucky we got Oldstein.
Um, why do you think we got the Weapon and Dank in??? We had shocking injury issues.
Unlikely the Club will return to Windy Hill. We have a state of the art facility at the Hangar, like the Filth has at (the whatever it’s called at the moment) Centre. The days of suburban grounds and suburban training facilities are long gone.
The one thing I thought about yesterday was ‘do I really believe the Cal tweet? The club has a history of not sharing the full content of the injury…’ etc. That’s why the Darcy Parish 5 or 6 year story is damaging. It’s not the fact that we offered five or six, it’s the fact that it appears the club lied about the length.
If they lied about that than you can lie about injuries…
In this scenario what are we really judging against
Some social media post that Bryan had a hand injury and might have broken it, pre any scans done or any formal reports or intel from media connected to the club (ie. Cal)
….
EFC has their release now anyway as well
Injury update: Nick Bryan surgery on injured thumb
Young ruckman requires surgery.
Essendon ruck Nick Bryan will have an interrupted start to pre-season following thumb surgery this week.
Bryan returned to pre-season training on Monday and sustained a high-grade ligament injury to his thumb.
Essendon General Manager of Football Dan McPherson said the injury should have minimal disruption to his pre-season with full training expected post-Christmas.
“Nick injured his thumb in contest work on Monday and scans revealed a ligament injury that required surgery. The surgery was successful, and he will be wearing a splint that will allow him to participate in the majority of training over the next few weeks,” McPherson said.
“He will be back running in a number of days, and whilst the injury is an inconvenience, and will cause him to be slightly modified for a number of weeks leading up to Christmas, it won’t have a significant impact on his pre-season.”
The club will provide further updates as the pre-season continues
You say this as if drafting a 35 yo was the only solution to our resolving our ruck depth
How do you know they lied? Because Tom Morris said so?
oh ok, what should we have done instead?
Grabbed someone younger like Flynn, Soldo, Sweet or Nyuon.
none of which would have been able to provide the immediate support we now require, soldo is garbage.
Scott’s focus on the immediate future is going to hurt us long-term. We’ve already missed an opportunity last season to get games into young players, which in turn has diminished our draft hand. Next season Goldstein will be given games at the expense of Bryan, and will be finished at the end of the season.
I’m not a fan of this move. It’s another short-sighted decision that will not benefit us beyond next season. We are not contending for the Premiership next year.
Draper is coming off a limited preseason/ injured and Bryan is likely going to be in limited training for a period too. We have two long term rucks alredy, having a mature backup is industry practice.
