#24 - Nick Bryan - thru 2027

Kidean Coleman has barely played a game two years after his knee reco. The 9-12 months is typical, but it’s not guaranteed.

Yeah, who wants a lower chance of reinjury and level of performance closer to pre-injury on return?

Totally. So who’s it gonna be in round one if Sammy goes? Vigo or Blak? Even for a bottom 6 side, that’s weak ruck stocks. Still better than Goldy, though.

Blaki seems to have a decent leap on him and competes in the clinches. 2MP is a chop out and forward as we all know. As long as we compete in the ruck minus Drapes our mids need to shark and win ball. Us winning taps have never been a guarantee to win those clearances to date. But Zach, Duz, Calders and Setters do OK otherwise. Be nice a fit DP3 and Hobbs/Tsatas could reliably add to that mix.

I prefer the big man wasn’t going but our critical needs are elsewhere

Id say we will draft another ruck if Draper goes. Ie Darcy or Ned Reeves

Unless he has a setback, he will be playing in the first few rounds next year

We just don’t know which team.

In the reserves, as “No Quick Fixes” Brad pumps more games into Goldstein…

Good one.

Can you tell us which game Goldstein played ahead of Bryan this year?

I have a vague memory of reading that the way they approach ACL surgery is different now and that instead of doing the surgery immediately (to shorten the timeframe for return), they wait a few weeks to allow swelling/inflammation to reduce. This means that when they do the surgery the muscles are closer to what they should normally be in size and have a better chance of healing cleanly.

Like I said, vague recollection, so I may be completely off the mark.

I think your point would be more relevant if we were considering selection when both players were FIT AND AVAILABLE. Because in his two seasons at the club, when both guys have been available, Goldstein has been selected more than Bryan.

For what it’s worth, I don’t really think Scott would still be so stupid as to pick Goldy ahead of Bryan. But I will be a bit worried if Goldy somehow gets another year on the list…

Which was why I referred to the most recent and relevant data which was this season.

Can you tell us how many games Goldy played in front of Bryan last year?

With our group of young forwards I wouldn’t be against playing Wright as a stop gap number 1 ruck early next year. We know he will be good around the ground.

I could look it up Robbo.

Why is that more important than this year?

its important, because we wasted a year of giving games to goldy instead of giving those same games to Bryan. Because Brad was all about the short term

I don’t think this is going to be productive Robbo.

I didn’t say it wasn’t important. I asked why it was more important than our more recent information.

I think it’s incredibly stupid to single out B Scott for playing experience over kids. We’ve done that every year since 2011. It’s clearly how the club has wanted the coach and footy dept to approach things.

So the senior coach shouldn’t be blamed for making the wrong selection calls…because the previous coaches made the same wrong calls?

I can’t remember the reasoning, but there’s definitely a trend towards delaying surgery and completing pre-hab prior.

Doing a bit of quick reading, it looks like long term outcomes and return to sport numbers are better if you do 4-6 weeks of pre-hab vs just letting the knee settle.
