I’m reminded every day when I look at my Essendon tattoo which i got 2 days after the win.
Martin starts in our 18 so wouldn’t be a 1:1 comparison with Bewick (though I would tend to agree Martin is the better of the 2).
Merrett over JJ (as our best starting on-baller).
Redman over Solly.
Durham over Heff maybe.
Could be a couple of others depending on how exactly you line up the sides.
If JJ was playing now he would be our best player.
He was a beast.
Boris 2000, was a better ground ball player. Had a better kick and was smarter around goal than Martin.
Nah, no way.
Ffs Redmond over Solly… Fck me people.
Redman over Solomon, how?
In the grand final specifically, Solly was the perfect match up for Russell Robertson.
I wouldn’t be giving Redman that job.
B: | 1 Mark Johnson | 31 Dustin Fletcher | 6 Sean Wellman |
---|---|---|---|
HB: | 11 Damien Hardwick | 21 Dean Wallis | 7 Dean Solomon |
C: | 26 Chris Heffernan | 24 Joe Misiti | 33 Blake Caracella |
HF: | 2 Mark Mercuri | 25 Scott Lucas | 5 James Hird (c) |
F: | 9 Adam Ramanauskas | 18 Matthew Lloyd | 13 Michael Long |
Foll: | 22 John Barnes | 32 Justin Blumfield | 14 Jason Johnson |
Int: | 8 Darren Bewick | 16 Paul Barnard | 27 Steven Alessio |
29 Gary Moorcroft |
I would swap
Ridley for Wallis at CHB
Nic Martin for Heffernan
Draper for Alessio
Z Merrett for Moorcroft
Durham or Caldwell for rama or Blumfield would be close to 50/50 but give it to the encumbants
No changes, for mine.
i’ll channel @dingus on this one about changing the 2000 side with our 2024 players
tracking beautifully, no changes for mine
I loved Solly but at his best he was never near an AA squad.
No way Draper, he’s conditional, Sheedy would’ve hated him, or turned him into a killer
Alright, Zerrett gets in but the question is who to take out.
I don’t like dropping Moorcroft for him, because Zerrett doesn’t do what he does.
I guess like for like means dropping Heffernan or Blumfield…probably Heffernan.
I guess I would do that, but I don’t like it.
Nobody else is even remotely close to consideration.
Edit: is Zerrett’s delivery good enough?
Hmmmm.
the 2000 players deserved to be in that side, they earned it
regardless of their skill etc, a 2024 player would be coat-tailing their way into that side
I get what you’re saying, but Solly was a lot more defensive than Redman.
Redman would be more competing with Hardwick for a spot - of which he’d have no chance.
There’s no dimension in the entire cosmos where Redman gets a game in that side.
Unless it’s taking hangers, I’m sure Merrett could do everything Moorcroft did and more if he was allowed to play purely as a small forward.
I was there….
I was much younger….
