A bit of a hit and miss game from the Package. Kicked a couple of ripper goals, but missed the two set shots that were very kickable. He could have iced the game with the last shot on goal, it would have snuffed out any chance to build any sort of momentum, but his miss left the door ajar for Freo to make a comeack.
The interplay with Fyfe was refreshing and entertaining. Fyfe tried to put him off the kick, but Jake nailed it anyway, then went back to Fife, they exchanged a few words and both were laughing about it. That was good to see.
Looked rusty early on an fluffed a couple of marks and just looked a bit out of sorts but worked his way into the game as it went on. Loved that couple of minutes where he out played Fyfe, kicked the goal and let him know about it and then from the resulting centre bounce he smashed the living bejeezus out of Fyfe. For such a class player though his set shots at goal are pretty darn ordinary at times
Was nearly a great day for him. Kicked 2 goals, hit the post another time, took a mark on the goal line which was only just over and missed 2 easy set shots. Realistically could’ve/should’ve been a 4 or 5 goal day from him. Was a bit rusty as well. Still needs to maximize those opportunities because that was the difference between breaking the game open and Freo still having a sniff.
The thought that Jake and Joe may never get a chance to play footy together is slightly upsetting. It would be amazing seeing Daniher, Stringer, Fantasia, and Walla turn up on the big stage together and tear some poor team apart.
The AFL shutdown gives Jake the chance to get through the worst of the sleep deprivation of a new born. He’ll be much better for the run - I mean sleep.
