He’ll be fine, just had some indigestion after eating a KFC family meal before training!
I’m not going to argue that he’s fat and injury prone. But you need to acknowledge that he is by far our most important player.
And that’s why his contract was heavily incentivised. At least the club correctly mitigated this risk.
Anyway, he’s not part of our next successful list phase anymore unfortunately. We’ll always have the highlight package.
I was told he had OP ……wasn’t a hammy ……if true perhaps they should have sent him for surgery to be ready for next season
Optics mate
You can’t sell “Stringers Return!!!” If you rule him out for the year
The ultimate one was Jade Rawlings. He had one good season at hawthorn and signed a big deal, then he stunk it up and ended up at the bulldogs
Not really. The surgery option for OP didn’t work for both Daniher or Stewart.
The overseas treatment in the end which did work focussed on mechanics of issue and specifically targeting rehab & strengthening of core/associated muscles
Except brash put everyone on notice that he expected us to improve in the second half of the season. So instead of doing what every other club in our situation would do, put players in for surgery early blood kids etc, we do the opposite and push for meaningless wins so we can improve our ladder position slightly and feel good about ourselves while damaging our draft position and completely disrupting preseason with multiple surgeries which should have happened in June…
We have done this over and over and over again since 2007
What’s wrong with that?
I’m glad he put everyone on notice to perform in the second half of the season time to see who wants to be a part of a succesful club in the future. The players and staff that dont can pack their bags and leave.
We have the nucleas of our team and it’s unlikely we will finish outside the bottom four.
Even after snagging a couple of wins if the side improves.
As soon as they(our current side) learn to start winning the better.
We aren’t getting one of the big 3 names in this years draft because we can’t suck harder than North West Coast and a f/s pick.
So chill out. Pick 4 through to probably 8 will be still netting a very decent prospect. Same with the second round.
Get surgery early to prep for preseason, look deeply at our list, secure a good pick. Those should be our priorities for the second half of the year, not doing better than first half of the year with the pressure off
You are assuming he needs surgery.
Sure and he might not. My point is really that if it is op playing him (and anyone else carrying issues) in the second half of the year is the opposite of what successful clubs have done in their down years over the last 20 years.
I think Liposuction is a bit extreme for Jake, but whatever it takes I guess
EFA
Every club has players they carry through the year. In fact most players carry something, it is the nature of the sport. For some it is little things for some it is bigger things.
Assuming that we just moth ball him for the rest of the year, look to a new pre-season and then start playing him, do you not stop and think that instead of helping him it makes it worse as he has not put his body through match conditions and will therefore just break down again? Instead we work on him now, get him up for some games as the year closes down, then continue to work on that set base so that he is cherry ripe for next year and will have less chance of breaking down.
These things are never black and white, many options can be looked at and assessed. I would also be careful assuming that what some people post is gospel, regardless of who they are.
All fair.
Clubs that have stuffed their year routinely send players for surgery early. He might not need surgery.
But if he focuses on rehab and conditioning for the rest of the season and we’re told he has op that’s fine by me
Meh
It’s important he is right for next year. Even if we are not contending, we have a serious lack of senior players for the younger players to learn from. Even when you’re rebuilding it’s critical to have senior players in the team to help the kids develop.
Even if he’s not in our next premiership team he could play a critical role in the next three years in helping to develop our kids to get there
Syndesmosis and groin injuries happen more at essendon than the other 17 clubs combined
