#25 Jake Stringer (Part 2)

Do you/have you had young children? Id be amazed if that happened

Iam all for letting him go we need a change in the forward line we are far too slow and donā€™t provide enough pressure to keep the ball locked in

According to itk posters the reason Voss wasnā€™t played and was then let go was because he was too undisciplined and wasnā€™t a good influence on the playing group.

Would be stunned if he went to Sydney. Heā€™s always talking about what his kids mean to him. I would never leave my daughter for another state, even for a relatively short stint.

I agree if Stringer goes to Geelong or Sydney he will kick a bag (especially against us). However at some point the club has got to draw a line in the sand. Given where we are (mediocre quagmire) culture is more important than an aging Stringer prone to lax standards.

Then he will be missing match payments stinking it up in the VFL

Again, heā€™s already signed on for 400k next year. Whether we trade him or not is the only thing thatā€™s up for discussion now.

What is Menzie getting paid next year?

$150-200,000?

Hard to believe that Menzie and Stringer could be given similar deals.

Surely weā€™re trying to push Jake out without reducing his trade value by putting him on the table.

I think everyone who wants to get rid of Stringer knows little about our team

He kicked 42 goals this year. Who is going to fill this gap if he goes. Menzies???

Menzies gets paid ? About $100,000 per goal this year.

Chances are we arenā€™t playing finals next year & our next premiership is miles away.

Who cares who kicks the goals, Stringers 42 goals didnā€™t get us there this year & it certainly wonā€™t next year. If he is purely motivated by $$$ā€¦ let him go & get someone in thats motivated to be the best they can be ALL the time that will be here for the next decade

Heā€™s not purely motivated by money. He wants to stay and trying to get more security with his job. I donā€™t think thereā€™s anything wrong with that.

Then dont stack it on when youā€™re coming to the end of your contract

Yes he is. Heā€™s a dad with three young kids nearing the end, Id be trying to get the longest deal possible on good money too.

Ive got no issue with anyone doing it either. Footy is a job

Its the 20 goals that he (and countless others) continually miss at crucial times that other teams dont miss that is the issue here. This ā€œoh he was good for 40 goals blah blah blahā€ , yeah, great, he kicked 40, but stinked up plently that any punter could nail blindfolded. Who at the club getting paid megabucks going to sort that outā€¦ please! We are mediocre until we get best out of the list, Jake top of that list.

Frustrating thing is he played a few games where his forward half pressure was good and he laid some crunching tackles, like the Bulldogs game earlier in the year. It is when he is ā€˜up and aboutā€™ and doing this that he plays his best footy, but some weeks it is non existent.

Because we burn him out trying to make him a full-time midfielder.

People keep talking down his 42 goals, but need to add some context to that statā€¦ He also attended the seventh most centre bounces in the team this year. He needs to be played permanent forward, and if he did heā€™d have had considerably more goals on the board. We canā€™t replace that with anyone on the current list.

Oh and he had the 2nd most tackles inside 50 for the team, along with 7th most tackles overall. Even pressure acts were the 4th most in the team.

Interesting stats for someone who doesnā€™t do the team or defensive things. He has generally looked unfit for stages of his career and he is the first and easiest person to pot on the list when the team falls off a cliff but I think he cops a lot of negativity unfairly.

In saying that club needs to hold steadfast on 1 year, potentially adding a performance trigger like his current deal had.

Hence the ā€œtry and stay and get security for his jobā€ that you left off my quote. I could be wrong but I think heā€™d stay in Melbourne over chasing $ interstate. The initial post I was replying to said if he was purely motivated by $$$ let him go. I think weā€™d be letting go bulk of our list if we extended that to people looking to provide for their family in a reasonable way.

Not arguing any of that, my point was he underdelivered as far as his goal tally went. His time forward, he stinked uo many opportunities that at pivotal times in games the he simply shouldnt. And as i also said, not on his own there. He needs to get back to being able to be trusted to do the simple bread and butter stuff that unfortunately he no longer does with any consistently. Ide toss a coin if he 20 out dead in front, as i would draper, not good
