Running both ways is not a prerequisite to playing midfield at Essendon. Cooney should know that.

Read it again, he comes across a little bit like contrary for contrary’s sake. But he may be right, and it’s always good to have a view from someone who’s been in both camps. Also, I don’t think midfieldiest midfielders like the idea that their craft can be just picked up by other specialists.
In about three weeks we will know just how accurate the assessment is. It will be interesting to see how they use him and how Stringer compliments the midfield group.
Cooney should know.

Don’t understand why people are annoyed at Cooneys comments … It is his opinion about a player he spent some time with. Doesn’t mean he is right but I have no problem with him sharing his thoughts.
Whether his assessment is correct or not will be shown when the footy season starts.

I see it differently. Maybe i am right or wrong. Dont we need to distinguish between midfielder and stoppage specialist ? Stoppages were our achilles heel in 2017. Stringer could contest every stoppage forward of the half back line and still not be a midfielder. But it does mean he needs to hone his stoppage craft just like the more strategic midfielders such as hepp, zerret, bj, darce. That means training with the mids.

Stringer is going to be a massive news story in 2018. If not THE news story of 2018. So opinions about Stringer are going to be everywhere. Better get used to all these pieces about him.
