Will be an absolute miracle if he can carve himself a spot in the senior side.
I'm not knocking his ability, because I've hardly seen him play, I'm just saying that as pick 31 you aren't expected to set the world on fire, but you'd probably expect to at least play one game in your first 3 seasons. The fact he's been rookied and now gets a call up is a testament to his attitude, and the beginnings of a great football story.

It comes as a bit of a shock to read that he’s only 21 years old. Even though I should have been aware of that.
We are way too quick to assume guys are destined for footy scrap heaps, both as supporters and the industry at large. The smaller lists are partly to blame, instant results are demanded (and in fairness needed from most) but at 21 , missing a years footy overseas, swapping ends to learn a whole new role and then fighting to get back off the rookie list through sheer hard work, the kid taken as a mercurial talent could still have a 10 year career in front of him. Not saying he will, he might be tslatts and only ever play one senior game. just saying that 21 year olds are still footy babies and you’re not always sure of what you’ve got.

Yeah, it's interesting. If we'd rookied Stein this year as a 21 year old from a state league, he'd probably be viewed very differently, and with a lot more positivity.
I hope he carves out a career, we could use him.
