#26 - Archer May - thru 2028

Oh Senator Martín, …………Love your suit!

It’s very instructive that you’re in his corner.

Benchmark for Archie this season?

I hope he can usurp the forward ruck role and take 2MP’s place in the team by end of year, although that’s unlikely. I put benchmark as a dominant VFL campaign which demands senior selection.

Thoughs?

i think he’s at least a year away from threatening 2mp for his spot and that’s if everything goes right for him.

a 30 or 40 goal year in the vfl would be an excellent result and hopefully he also show some good progress with his relief ruck work

VFL lineup will be interesting this year

??? Hayes kondo

Bourke Gerryn Farrow

Prior setterfield Cox

Viggo ??? Robey

unwin May Perkins

ADW Mcmahon Edwards

gresh guelfi

i’m assuming huss, tsatas and sharp make the seniors but that’s probably optimistic

backline ??? is going to be whoever of nguyen/seh/johnson miss - could yet be all 3 or two of them.

farrow could be set to slot straight into the middle it seems .

Blakiston probably end back in the twos at some point. and jones too

it feels a lot more balanced than it did a few years ago though that might just be because jones and bryan are on the injury list still

Good overview mate. When you lay it out like that, it starts to resemble a team with a bit of depth and hopefully some selection headaches

I think he’s a decent chance to become a Shaun McKernan level player.

I worry about his lack of mobilty from the small sample size so far. Hope he does rip it up in the VFL and put some pressure on 2MP.

Wright has lost his spot in our Best 23 previously. He has a significant weakness in the air, cannot apply defensive pressure and is by no means a lock.

Having stated that, our ruck issues are dire, so I think that saves him. Plus he has some wonderful footy talents.

But I reckon May thinks he can take that spot off of Wright.

This lad is leaving no stone unturned. Ripping nick. Going hard at training. Results speak for themselves . Lock him in for Rd1 IMHO

I don’t think he’ll grab a round 1 spot. Happy to be wrong obviously but 2MP is also training well and adds to his value by being a handy second ruck.

I give May 5-6 weeks in the VFL before he’s putting holes in the door by knocking so loud.

Love hearing we have one of the many second tier talls putting his hand up. Will be stoked if May becomes AFL standard. Can kick. Loves the physical.

Agree he’ll probably start in the VFL. Only so much you can take from dominating (checks someone else’s notes) VFL-listed Tyler Sellers.

I think the question is how do we structure ruck relief with the new rules (both ruck and sub). If Wright isn’t required to fill ruck minutes then it becomes an interesting discussion about what our best forward line looks like. You could see a world where the talks are Caddy, Langford and someone, but what that 2nd tall (I’ll call Langford a Tall3) looks like is wide open. It could be a Wright type, right down to (theoretically) a Robey type. What that looks like for the team is very different.

I would like to think we will go smaller and more mobile but after three years of Brad it will probably be all the talls 2mp may jones cox and caddy

There’s plenty of talk that the ruck won’t be able to get to all the ball ups so a taller forwards / mids / backs will need to cover.

When Blaki is playing does he cover mid - back with Wright forward?

Yep I’d like to see more of a mobile ground ball pressure forward line .

Saying that I don’t want Gresham or guelfi anywhere near the first team this year .

But as you said it depends if Brad has changed his ways and not rely on the failures of past years

Nah. You’re forgetting Cox and Jones are wingmen.

maybe our coaches have learned that wright is no good in the wet. if its a wet and windy day at the G i would play May over Wright just as he has more mobility and is more useful when the ball hits the deck. hes more physical and crashes packs. wright is an absolute weapon when he is on song but when its wet hes useless from what i can remember.

I would be extremely surprised if Brad plays May at the expense of Wright this season.

Your right my bad and he will play duursma and Fiz forward

He’s a bit of a specimen.. looks athletic and strong as an Ox. Dermi as a mentor is a huge help. Marks and kicks well too.

I’m backing him in to seize a key forward position come the bye.
