#26 Cale "Thank You Mr" Hooker - rejects a brown paper bag from FCFC

I ■■■■ one goat…

It’s also pure coincidence that Hooker’s form dropped off the cliff after Mitchell corked him.

Should have got Stewart to tag Rance after Q1

What has happened with Hooker’s hands though? Used to be clunk city.

Bad day at the office?

We’ve all had them.

I’m not sure if it’s just a bad day out though, it seems like he’s grassed a few that over previous years he’d one-grab.

I think his confidence could be down too.

Well said mate. Such an easy fix. It’s all well and good when he clunks the first one for the day, but when he’s struggling give him 5 minutes in the back line and get him into a few contests. Confidence goes up and no more team deflating dropped chest marks.

I’m not sure either.
I was just offering a possibility.

aside from of the sitters that he dropped the other night, Hookers contested marking has been pretty good this year.
And it’s a lot easier to be a contested mark specialist in defence where the bloke you’re competing against is also trying to take a grab, than take the contested grab against a bloke whose sole objective is to stop you getting it.

According to some, Rance is no good.

He is 5th in the league for contested marks per game (better average than in 2015). 4th overall.

Oh and Garry Lyon. I just had a look at your stats over your career buddy. Hmmm…plenty of no goals, low disposals and marks games there.

Veteran forwards to grow in value, says Kelly . Peter Ryan May 31, 2017 7:20 PM . ESSENDON veteran James Kelly has no doubt that defenders turned forwards Cale Hooker and Harry Taylor will become more and more valuable attacking options as the season progresses.

Kelly knows how good a defender Taylor is, having played alongside him in two premierships at the Cats and is watching Hooker’s progress at the Bombers from close quarters as a teammate.

He said the moves of both were serving the greater good of the team, and in time the quality of the veteran defenders would shine through in the forward 50.

“If Harry and Cale are not there and not legitimate marking threats, everyone just gets in front of Joe (Daniher) and everyone just gets in front of Tom (Hawkins),” Kelly told AFL Exchange Podcast.

“It is about the whole balance of the team.”

Hooker made some errors against Richmond on Saturday night, but he has kicked 16 goals in 10 games and proved a good foil for Daniher as he emerges as one of the most dangerous tall forwards in the game.

Taylor did not kick a goal against Port Adelaide after kicking five goals a week earlier against the Western Bulldogs and finished the game with just seven disposals, after a poke in the eye forced him from the ground during the last quarter.

Kelly backed them to play good football up forward in the remaining 12 games.

“Those guys are both smart guys,” Kelly said.

“They will just continually get better. A midfielder who goes and plays at half back doesn’t nail it in his first 6 weeks or 10 weeks. It takes time like anything.”

hands working great today, shame about the kicking though!

Played well tonight. Not so much of a liability anymore

Kicking for goal is a deadset liability, getting towards being embarrassing. I really like him up forward but his misses tonight were momentum killers

Grippo on the hands after so many missed marks, direct result of ■■■■ kicking. Makes it difficult to drop the ball. I never liked using it for that reason

He holds the ball really weird when he is having a set shot - kind of like underneath the ball.

Same way I tuck mine in.
