Redman literally robbing the club
We have been that bereft of decent halfbacks for so long we build the dog up as a messiah.
Heās average and has good days here or there, very prone to beating up on cellar dwellers
Will be a sign the club hasnāt changed if we pay him that amount.
When have we done that before?
It is about his importance to a team that can win a premiership. that is not our current team. You donāt pay A graders elite money just because you donāt have anyone that is elite.
The thing is though if we pay everybody at our club what they are worth we would end up about $5m under the salary cap
Someone has to get the money, itās why guys like Polec at North was getting $800k plus.
I think if you went through our list most wouldnt be worth what they are getting paid
Looked very stiff last night
Is he playing injured? He hasnāt looked free of movement for about 3 -4 weeks to me.
However, 50%ish of the salary cap is blown on basic minimum salary and match payments.
You start paying too many guys too much and you cant afford high salaries, pay more than 1-2 big dollars (like 800k) and it eats it up quick. Pay someone over a mil and you can only really have one on your list that high.
The average wage might be 350, but actually only best 22 are really on that or higher. The number thrown around the media (in terms of club salary $) are nowhere near what they say. Itās outside salary cap money that makes up the difference. Add in some club marketing money, boots sponsorship, other sponsorship, appearance money for events and thatās how they get the higher wages.
So from Redman perspective, I think a part of it would be which club wants to mark him a brand outside the club and what that will do to his game would play a decent part.
He felt his hammy a couple of times last week but no excuses. Every time you take the field you have declared yourself fit to go.
I think itās more that his form has dipped since all the media stuff has come out. A bit of drinking his own bath water and lapping up the media praise whilst also pondering his contract. Opposition coaches have also worked him out and are putting more time into him
If I found out he was playing sore, itād be a pretty good excuse.
Thatās fair enough for last week, same as Ridley but once a) the medical team clear you, b) you put your hand up to play and c) you are selected to play then all bets are off
Yep, I agree the opposition bit. Fremantle put a bit of work into him and that was the start of the poor patch. Heās still got hopefully his best years ahead of him, hopefully he gets the contract stuff done and can move on.
I donāt really agree with c. Itās a nice thing to say. At the end of the day, if a player is hurt itās going to impact their performance.
Correct but thats on them for lying about their pain situation
No one else can know how their body feels, if theyāre not right they need to say so
Iāve held the view that heās nowhere near 750-800k for a long time now. The brain fades undo a lot of his really good work.
If he leaves, I really couldnāt give a fark.
He has too many stinking games to warrant paying hm this much.
Yes he can have amazing games but the difference between his best and worst is massive.
When you have bad matches as a defender it obviously hurts the team more than a forward for example
I have been told by many players that you are hardly ever 100% fit and most players take niggles into games but once you step across the line you are āfitā.
Some have admitted as to playing under duress and not being truthful with the team or medicos and have spoken about how it has affected the trust between them and the club
Trouble is, he will be worth 700+ to the Crows or any other team, so may end up costing us that much to keep him.
Mason was hardly the worst player last night and is easily in our best 22. He is worth what someone will pay him, and I would expect Brad Scott sees him as a required player at 25 and approaching 100 games.
