It’s all we have, platitudes. Platitudes and rationalisation and meaningless ■■■■■■■ stats. It’s what Scott spouts at press conferences, and it’s infiltrated the playing group. Keep telling yourself these things. Sounds good, doesn’t it? But they’re weasel words. Someone has to face facts. Maybe it’s not what we stand for, but it’s what we are. Until we admit that we’re not going anywhere.
Lloyd talked about the Essendon crabs, he’d be the King Crab. Scuttles around going behind for handball recieves to boost his stats. He is actually fcking terrible at defending, he is a poor kick, he handballs to feet and to players in worse positions, he panics with ball in hand and without ball in hand. He is a poor defender. There is no accountability for him, he knows he’ll play week in and week out. Scott backs this Crab in and it’s infuriating.
Pretty much always has been. When you draft a winger/HFF and try to turn him into a defender I’m not sure what the club expects. He is your classic cheap stat accumulator that can only play as a loose man with no accountability
This is what happens when you draft as terribly as Essendon has that players of his calibre (and Langford, Ridley, Mcgrath etc) get over rated by the club when at another club he might be depth player at best.
It’s one thing to draft poorly as all recruiters make blunders but it’s how you rectify your mess that matters. We seem to have this aversion to actually trading out anyone that even has any interest from other clubs and instead of letting them walk we do the opposite and sign them long term. Redman, Parish, McGrath, Ridley all managed to milk long term deals when we should have called their bluff
Yes, the club is to blame.
But let’s not forget that a large contingent of Blitz wanted him as Vice Captain cos… you know “red dog”.
And we just did it again with giving jones a 2 year deal
Just wait until we give Draper a monster long term deal this year
My mate was at the mines in WA when the red dog was around. Said it was a mangy mongrel, don’t believe the film. I think maybe the nickname is approriate.
I’d keep Draper, Reid, Durham, Duursma, Martin and Caddy.
I’d let merrett go if he wanted. The rest is a fire sale.
That rest includes Kako,Caldwell,Roberts
Yup spot on, we go into meltdown mode and lock them in and the players are average at best.
Same with McKay paid a massive price for a very average defender.
Bailey Dale is the player Dodoro thinks Redman was when he extended by 5 years.
You’d never know if it was gonna be a 1st or end of 1st pick but an extra top 30 pick in 2023 would be providing more than mason does. Could have even had the Caddy-Morris double.
It’s easy to say in hindsight, but I went back through this thread today and seems like you were happy to give him a big contract at the time
Was happy to give him the cash just not the years. We have had plenty of cap room so I’d rather use a bigger wad of cash than an extra year. At the time I was hoping for 3 years on more coin.
Does my head in. Some of his decision making is diabolical for a 10-year player.
I’d look at a trade
I think he got the runs while playing - probably on purpose for the GPS numbers. (Sorry)
