#27 Mason Redman - till end 2028

The good news about the most recent draft keeps coming. Parish, Francis (obvious wraps), Morgan (gun in the making), Redman (has ‘IT’), Eades (could be anything), Brown, Leuenberger and Hartley. Then there’s Tippa and Gach.

How’s Wallis coming along?

Not too much of a stretch to imagine 8 or more of these guys being in the senior side eventually. That’s a phenomenal draft. Add Langford, Laverde and potentially Long from last year and there’s a pile of potential stars in two years. The super list may already be here!

Just a dozen touches today (2 tackles, 2 rebound 50s) but he looks much more like a footballer than in last year’s cameo. In hard and at it, decent pace on the outside.

I was encouraged to see Wallis line up in the square for a number of bounces. The club must see a good footballer in him.

Yeah, I kept an eye on Wallis and was pretty happy with how he went, he did some really good things and just showed really handy instincts and ball-getting ability. What he does have to do is bulk up, because his game was definitely at his best when he was inside the contest, and look at his running patterns, because he just got no uncontested link-up possessions at all.

I though his handball was excellent. Watson like. Still quite lean though and was easily out-bodied in a number of contests. He’s got something though, when he fills out I think he’ll become a very handy footballer.

HM &TB, I agree with your points. And if he has even half the toughness of his Dad then he’ll be a very fine inside mid.

It helps to have a “super” draft class when you have 4 picks in the top 30… Jackets still did well with Brown, Eades and Hartley but that exceptional trade period for both melksham and Carlisle is what might be traced to setting it ‘all’ up in the future.

Add that to the deals for Zerrett, Langford/Laverde and you suddenly start to see an exceptional 3 year recruitment period.

Not to mention Raz who was the backend of the Zerrett draft

BRING
HIM
INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Wallis looks very promising.

How many future stars do we have?

Exciting times.

Imagine there were 2 more top 10 selections in there. Oh well

Saw him at Moonee Ponds station as I got on the train to go to the game yesterday. He is extremely slight in build, as you would expect from a 1st year player, but even so I’d not be playing him in the big time for this reason. He’s just skin and bone at this point and I think you could do the kid some harm by exposing him too early when his body is not AFL ready. Parish is a 1st year kid too but he has a bit more muscle on the bones. Watched some of the 2s game on TV and he does look an extremely exciting prospect, but I’d be warehousing him in the VFL and setting him up for a big off-season in the gym.

Looked great against the Pies at Vic park. He will get some games this year

According to profiles on essendon app Gleeson and Wallis both weigh 74kg. Gleeson would have only been 65kg roughly when drafted and played nab cup in his first year and senior footy in his 1st or 2nd year. Size isn’t an issue.

Too early for mine. No need to rush him, better opportunities to grow and learn in the twos while he bulks up. He would just be frustrated in the seniors now with the slow ball movement and multiple defenders

Egan came into my business today and had a chat. Lovely guy. He said that Redman might debut this year (unless I heard him wrong). Also said Eades could be anything. Said he had ‘elite endurance’

Year. He seemed like a pretty understated guy. Very happy how things are going but he is the development coach and looking at Redman through those eyes (IMO).

Thanks. I’m happy enough with that.
I’d be happy if Long was left to develop in the 2’s for a bit longer as well. But I hope benfti doesn’t see this post!!
