I don’t believe we’ve ever recruited properly for this type of player.

Maybe Rosa is calling some shots…

Duursma is 1000% a Craig Vozzo call. Vozzo wanted him badly in his draft year when at the Eagles because he fit the long wings at Optus.

It’s about 2m difference, I think.

I thought you were saying i was making a call off 2 rounds initially. But i agree, it needs a body of work to assess, particularly when a player that has been perennially injured in the past, is now at the efc that has struggled to get some players on the field consistently. Zerk is killing it at port at the moment too and is a pretty durable, so what started all this is i thought port asking for more than just zerk off the back of duursma’s last 4 years and injury riddled history was very rich.

Setterfield is probably a good comparison, was very good last year with a new opportunity but has been injured and form has dropped off less than a year and a half in. We barely gave anything for him though, we could have got a second rounder for zerk and kept Martin on a wing which could win him AA honours. I would still like Martin on the other wing now that Durham has moved inside, we miss his kicking inside 50 and midfield goals in my opinion.

Geez its annoying when these muppets bring up old posts to prove a point when its quite obvious he was bog average in the first 2 rounds.

Has been phenomenal lately though.

Geez it’s annoying when posters on this site continually bag players because they aren’t performing yet don’t take into account the difficulties said player must overcome due to lack of game conditioning and low confidence associated with overcoming injury.

It’s one of those trades that has been mutually beneficial. Zerk is playing well and compliments their defence nicely whilst Duursma is something we haven’t had for far too long. It’s a win/win for both and there doesn’t have to be a loser in every deal

Hate to derail the discussion here, but geez XD has been a good pick up for the club.
Started slowly but has come up a treat. Playing really well. Reckon his disposal is better than most at the club at the moment. Possibly hasn’t had the opportunity to be completely Essingtoned. But, yeah, a good get.

in the first couple of weeks his defensive running was great even if he wasn’t as good with the ball.

He does some things a lot of our players don’t. Getting plenty of the ball and kicking goals is the icing

Really? I thought he did a number on Langford last week, who rarely, if ever, gets beaten. Last night i only saw bits and pieces, as the afl like to put 2 games on at the exact same time for some reason. But when i flicked it on he took a quality intercept mark 1 v 1 and the commentators said how good he has been. Now it’s only 2 weeks, but that seems to be the marker in here to judge a player at the moment.

Fantastic addition to the team. The side has needed taller, harder players across the field and he addresses some of that.

He’s the sort of player you want as a leader at the club not the game breaking match winner but the guy who does all the hard stuff running defensively and unrewarded running

I reckon he was always serviceable at the Bombers and was best 22. Never be a star but one of the most determined players on any list.

Dursma is building to be a very good player, and as Ace says win/win in trade.

I think he would have been good with McKay next to him, but he was surplus to needs in the end. Agree if duursma stays injury free long term, it could be a quality trade and happy to be proven wrong. Clohesy at the suns seems a great get with a rookie pick as a winger too, very similar to duursma. You wonder how he slipped under everybody’s noes so long.

To be fair to langford, our kicking to him was shocking and our midfield was dominated for 3 qtrs. Ball was hardly there after qtr time

Very happy for you to dispute something that was shared with me 1st hand from a member of the WCE recruitment team

WCE also had him rated far higher than the late teens in his draft year and WC never stopped trying to lure him over west.

I’m simply pointing out that the difference in ‘running the long wings of Optus Oval’ is a couple of meters.
