Gotta say when he was first drafted and I saw pics I thought this looked your definition of a project player but having seen some training vision of him and based on reports of how he is training is he really going to be that far off senior action next year? To my eye his body looks more ready than Angus Clarke did last year and he held up ok.

The ranginess, agility, and lateral movements of this player are weapons. His closing speed and one-on-one defensive positioning are equally impressive.
He will undoubtedly push players like Prior, Clarke, Johnson, Nguyen, and El Hawli, all of whom gained exposure in 2025. .

Training reports paint a glowing picture of Max as a standout or best recruit or Collingwood wanted him. etc etc.
So any ideas why he was drafted as low as 36? What’s the downside?
Saw some pre draft footage, likes to run off half back, sidestep etc. Looks a bit like the Lizard. Plays on after marking, easily within 2 seconds. But can he do this at AFL level? If he can, we have got our own Lizard.

He was taken in the second round of the national draft, it’s not like he was pick 68 of the rookie draft
