#3 Darcy "Darcy Parish" Parish - Shiel can play forward pocket instead

See what happens when you put a player out there for a press conference for the Country Game?
Some reporter drags up the matter of the contract, which was a sleeper, now its front page news.

Shoulda re-signed last year. Hasnā€™t done anything to up his price in 2017.

The delay is due to to the fact that the AFL hasnā€™t finalised the new EBA with the Playerā€™s Association still.

Basically, contract talks are on hold everywhere until that deal is done and every club knows what itā€™s salary cap will be.

Itā€™s why I think you are hearing about few/if any contracts being signed anywhere.

I expect clubs and player managers are, right now, extremely frustrated with AFLā€™s tardiness on this issue.

Once the EBA is finalised Iā€™m expecting a flood of contract signings across the AFL to occur.

Parish is just one of many.

Why do people think Darcy has not progressed since last year?

He is more than holding his own, getting more possessions than last year, in a midfield that bats a lot deeper than last year.

Is coming along just beautifully.

Will be getting a 3 year deal worth at least 1.2 million, I would expect.

Will it be ok to Boo him when he leaves?

Dodoroā€™s job is on the line here. If he canā€™t get Parish to sign, heā€™s probably out the door.

REPUTATION IN TATTERS

Iā€™m not remotely concerned about Parish re-signing, but there have been plenty of players signing contracts recently. A cursory google search for ā€œAFL re-signā€ shows in the last few months Mills, Fantasia, Daniel, Breust, Patton, Shiel, Zac Williams, Buntine, Cockatoo have all re-signed, plus a few ā€œwhoā€™s he?ā€ players. Iā€™ve no doubt some contracts are being held up by those negotiations, but itā€™s hardly as if the industry is on hold.

Even if he just ā€œconsolidatesā€ ( and he is actually improving at the same rate he was last year) , the performance of the midfield has not shown any improvement since last year with Hepp, Jobe and even BJ in it. This makes him even more valuable. If we want to bring a midfielder in, we have to payextra money and draft picks

The sort of coin that will be thrown at this kid, aged 19 would be ridiculous. This scenario of top juniors who are coming to the end of their default 2 year contract, with clubs circling like a pack of wolves is going to be huge in the future. The managers are loving it.

Weā€™ll get the deal sorted, but Iā€™d rather we get a 5-6 year contract on big coin for Parrish. Rather Than put him on another 2 year deal, save it up and throw it all at Fyfe or Martin in the hope we can pull a free agent.

F*ck that.

Fantasia was always going to be a bigger risk of leaving, than Parrish ever was.

Doddoro knew Fantasia needed to be signed while the manager and player were keen to get it sorted. If he had waited a few weeks, we lost games to Carlton, Melbourne & Fremantle. While Adelaide (premiership favourites) are circling, they might have decided to hold off talks until the end of the year.

McGrath is the one leaving.

Season is young. He has 2/3rdā€™s of it to go.

He has every reason to wait & see if he can prove himself worth as much as possible. Itā€™s the way of the day, & Iā€™m sure weā€™d all do the same in his shoes.

JD is in the exact same boat btw.

Edit: Also, what Baker said.^^

Dodā€™s spells it all out in his Bomber Radio interview. (Ep 5.)
