He’s always been more damaging with the ball then Mitchell was.
His kicking efficiency over his career is 58.9 it’s consistently in the lower third of midfielders and his metres gained sits at 315 which is about middle of the pack.
I actually agree if he stays fit he could be back to being near our second best player my questions are can he stay fit and has he improved the areas he needs too.
Are you taking about 2021 because that’s the only season he has been top five and that was five seasons ago?
Surely people who even rate Parish can admit he’s an ordinary kick of the footy
My vague memory of him at his best was that he was great at centre clearance, also great at running it out of the centre, much like Shiel but not as explosive. Also much like Shiel, suffered from that kick into the forward line that wouldn’t hit up a player and/or go into the pocket when leads out in front were available. Not all the time, but becomes ‘the thing’ when it happens a few times and then becomes everyone’s blind spot of him (much like McGrath) and then his great traits are almost forgotten.
Defensive side could always use work, but he was great at finding space and providing an option, and his pace was good
I’d say he’s an average kick for an AFL on baller. Caleb Serong for comparison has a kicking efficiency of 53.6% over his career, it’s typical for the position.
Being top 5 even for just one year is an enormous achievement.
It is, Iam not saying it wasn’t.
The guy is, or at least was, a bloody good player. He’s got deficiencies, like all other players, and for me his poor tackling was always more of a frustration than his ordinary kicking. But his clearance, contested possession and ball-finding stuff is absolutely top drawer.
His 2021 was brilliant, and he was playing really well in 2022 as well before the injuries started. He’s had three of his peak seasons compromised/ruined by injuries, which really sucks. I’m doubtful about whether he can get back to the level he was at, but I’m really hoping his luck changes this year. I’d love to see him have a good run at it this season, I definitely haven’t forgotten how good he can be.
Equal 13th in 2022 and equal 25th in 2023. Weird that a player with apparently so little hurt factor is so high up for score involvements whenever he’s fit despite playing for a rubbish team.
Agree with everyone’s concerns, but 20+ Brownlow votes this year if fit (and preseason under belt), underrated and harshly treated. He’d be more annoyed about it than any one of us.
I always find it funny when people throw these sorts of medals in with things like AA and brownlows.
They can only ever be won by two teams thus they’re competing with very few yo win them. Comparatively any player can take home AA, Brownlow, Coleman, Norman Smith honours.
So it’s not really in the same league in my eyes
Dude I wasnt even the person who mentioned hurt factor so Iam not sure why your coming after me I was literally just saying that top five was five years ago.
I’m not excited about Parish because I’m not excited about any of our players being competition dominant yet. I like Parish and several others, but I’ll wait to see if the team improves before feeling anything.
Hurt factor/no hurt factor….
All that really matters is that we’ve got 2 very good seasons out of 10. It’s not great.
Let’s see if he can have an uptick in the twilight of his career both in terms of availability and how much of a genuine problem he is to opposition teams.
One thing about Parish’s kicking is that he at least tries to move the game forward and takes on kicks that have risk. If you go back and watch his footy from 2021-22 he is taking on those corridor passes and diagonal kicks with a bit of punch and dare. He doesn’t quite have the skill level to hit them consistently when he is not at the top of his game - which clearly he hasn’t been for a long time.
His kicking is still the same based on practice mathes
This is what we want to see from parish, if he brings a defensive edge to his game I’ll be stoked.
@Begbie thanks for the video
I rate his golf game and his ability to play golf while injured
I reckon he’s OK by foot when he is moving it with momentum.
When he kicks from a standstill or off 1 step he is trouble.
