#3 - Darcy Parish thru 2029 (Part 3, from April 2025)

AFL is too quick for him

A weird player to pick on. There wouldn’t 15 ahead of him.

It’s disgraceful you can have a bloke in his first game out working this bloke to get back defensively

Going alright but gee his kicking remains a liability.

Did you take your binoculars?

He is exactly what is wrong with Essendon and what has been wrong for 20 years. Gets picked on reputation/surname rather than performance.

Anyone that can’t see him trotting out of the midfield without urgency when the Hawks win the clearance, needs to pay more attention.

the midfield just got absolutely smashed in that quarter, they should be the first ones in the firing line, but because they rack up ā€œnumbersā€ that lead to nothing, it’s ok.

He absolutely shirked the contest deep forward that qtr. Just wouldn’t put his body on the line. You can’t carry cowards unless they are absolutely deadly with the ball and Parish is a butcher.

Be interested to see what his running numbers are like… he genuinely gives up once its 5m away from him.

Of course he’s exactly what’s wrong with Essendon. But that’s not his fault. He’s just doing what he has always done. And he’s doing it ok tonight.

There are other players who aren’t doing anywhere near what they could or should be doing.

The idea that Merrett and a fit Parish would transform our midfield was just stupid. It’s never been good enough.

Haven’t seen him play in such a long time I forgot how bad and unaccountable he is defensively.

Guarding grass & jogging back to defend. Thought he was terrible, outside of the first quarter.

5 touches combined for Q2 & Q4 when the game was won.

Then you see a young guy in Sharp try and lay a huge tackle on big reeves

In a few years Sharp will work out its not worth the effort when the rest of the players get away with no physical intensity. A remotely decent coach would have dragged Parish for that squib but we’ll trot him out for maximum midfield minutes every game he’s available.

Yep it’s why we need to move these guys on and say this isn’t a standard we accept.

It seems they only want to do that with young players

How good were his two goal assists to Perkins and Duz.. Absolute sublime

Thought he was decent. Spent a lot of time on the bench in Q2 and Q3 for some reason.

Will be better for the run.

It’s a great point

so many people keep banging on about the fact we need experience…… but honestly do we want young players to be learning bad habits from blokes like Parish?

We need to break the cycle. Those guys have seriously coasted for years & set extremely low standards especially for physicality. He’s 28 FFS, he should be an onfield leader but he just has no presence & inspires nothing. He reads the clearances very well but his ability to turn a clear centre square takeaway into a contested ball wide on the flank still 45 from goal is unmatched.

As soon as he tired it went south for the team. Look at his stats. Hopefully it’s conditioning and he’ll be able to run out a game soon.

I reckon it was likely really good coaching from the Hawks and then their midfielders and ruckman executing. They were able to completely shut us down from Q2 onward. This was all our midfielders so its hard to pin-point the blame onto a specific individual.

I would hate to see what our clearance numbers were like after quarter time.
