Mate, I dont hate Dodoroā€¦I donā€™t know the bloke. Weā€™re struggling for success as a club and Iā€™m interested only in how that came to beā€¦ so I come on here and ask questions, start a discussion about the one guy thatā€™s been here the longest. A dozen posters have responded with their thoughts on our draft strategy, and most have been very constructive and insightfulā€¦ and helped me to better understand our footy club and its historyā€¦ and Dodoros likely strategy.

Thatā€™s the purpose of a footy club forumā€¦take Redbulls War and peace post aboveā€¦ thatā€™s great. Itā€™s cool that people want to share that info and their take on it.

I dont see how itā€™s a bad thing and how you equate that to trolling.

Of which you could have looked up before you posed your so called question. BTW you started this by not asking a question but attacking Dodoro for drafting only smalls and not talls. You also questioned his picking up of Smith, Saad, Shiel and Stringer over drafting young talls.

This has been done in multiple threads too. You are pushing out an agenda on Dodoro. You donā€™t want him? Fine say it, then give it a rest.

Nice @redbull.

Ok, weā€™re going around in circles. Some advice Iceyā€¦ you donā€™t like my posts, and clearly it aggravates you a hell of a lotā€¦ so look up that feature on the site where you can block me and activate it. All good and everyones happy!

I think weā€™re done here now.

I thought true to the red sash was bad (Facebook group, which I have been removed from because pointing out stupid stuff and having admins as hardcore fl0gs) but it feels like these members are starting to slowly creep into here now

Really interesting reading for a footy nerdā€¦ like me.

It would be interesting to see if free agency trades follow the same patternā€¦

But Iā€™ll look that one up myself!

Is it @JBOMBER and @Ants who have had some long debates about this topic?

Maybe this thread needs them :joy:

People are bagging Dodoro for not drafting talls now, hhahahahhaha, wasnā€™t it mids last year was his core fault with drafting.

Thereā€™s no debate - its reality v delusion. 15 years no finals wins equals lists that have not been good enough - thems the facts. Only 9 AA spots have been won by players Dodoro has drafted or traded in (even if you include those won at other clubs ie Ryder & Pig) - thats again the lowest in the competition. Carlton for comparison have 19, Geelong have 51. So even the clappers who creamed themselves over the 2017 AA side having 5 Dodoro recruits canā€™t ignore that year was a massive outlier but still didnā€™t make up for the rest of his career.

As for the mids v talls part - yep we have heavily invested in mids over the last 4 years (5 counting the 2019 1st rounder). Post Jobe it was looking diabolical & we really only had Hepp & Zerrett as our only chance of emerging or possibly top quality mids on the list. We had to go mid 1st in 2015/16 & then the trade ins of 2017 were all very much needed & I have had no issue saying that was Dodoroā€™s best work. Shiel is a tough one to judge. On 1 hand we absolutely need him & more quality mids like him but I thought the price was too high especially compared to say Treloar who I rated higher & was traded 3 years earlier (they were born on the same day). Do I think its likely Dodoro would have drafted a better player with pick 9 last year & pick whatever this year - no I donā€™t have the confidence in his recruiting so I will take the bird in the hand.

I believe the club rightly looked at our KP stocks & believed Hurley & Hooker down back were good enough to be the key talls of a strong back 6 with Hartley & Brown as backup. We also had Francis (pick 6) emerging. Up forward we had potentially the best key forward in the game post 2017, Stewart showing some promise, Smack & for the 1st time since 2000 we had multiple specialised small forwards who could kick goals with 1 (Raz) potentially a match winner. What did we need to make that side competitive - a decent midfield. I still donā€™t think we are there but I will never think targeting mids has been the wrong tactic. I have always & still firmly believe that until we have a quality mid group, talls at either end will be of little consequence. Collingwood made a GF last year with the worst KP stocks in history (Cox, Mihocek, Langdon & Goldsack).

I would think that drafting KP talls & a young ruck would be a priority in the 2019/20 drafts.

Good arguments in that postā€¦ mostly onboard with it all. The one thing the Pies do have is a gun tall in Grundy. Also, if the Pies had a McGovern in the final the result might have been different.

Totally get our midfield was thin and needed bolstering from 2015 to 2018, but our big man stocks, across the board, are now on the decline. Ruttens work is papering over cracks down back, (Hurls doesnā€™t look like he can handle the big fwds anymore) and Belly is already moving like a boat. I expect Dods and Woosh thought we were closer to a flag than maybe we are, and took the puntā€¦ and, despite what some here think, I reckon that was a fair, if wrong (in hindsight) call to make. Itā€™ll be an interesting next couple of years hoping Joey, zerk, draper etc come on faster than the old guys decline.

Drafting is not our problem. I reckon we are bottom 4 for ability to unlock the potential out of a player.

FMD there was 80 new posts in here since I left work, I was sure the injury report had come out and heā€™s ruptured an everything and was out for 6 seasons, but instead itā€™s turned into another Dodoro threadā€¦

This shocks me to the core. How on Mother Earth do you get time for another job? I thought you were employed full time by the Blitz Billionaires to post expert analysis on climate science.

Reading the injury report on Zerk-Thatcher is rather worrisome.

ā€œWeā€™ll keep in the back of our minds that these things can present like a strain, so if he doesnā€™t progress as expected then weā€™ll get him scanned.

Why wouldnā€™t we just get a scan done? What are we running out there at Tulla? Some sort of two bit operation or a professional sporting organisation? This sort of comment off the back of the Daniher and Stewart injuries leaves me highly concerned with our approach to fitness and injuries.

Not this again. FFS.

What has probably happened:

The doctor has looked at it and gone ā€œItā€™ll likely just heal on itā€™s own, rest up Zerk and see me in a couple of daysā€, in which case diagnostic tests are pointless.
