#31 Zach Reid

ANNOUNCE someone, anyone!

Young players still need to be able to compete for it to be worth while playing them. You don’t want to wreak their confidence, It’s a balancing act.
At the moment Reid needs to play a block of games in the reserves.

Unfortunately there are two actual gorillas in the AFL and we are playing them in consecutive weeks.

These two?

That’s a good point. Hawkins and Dixon are in a league of their own in terms of being absolute man mountains aren’t they. Not many left like them.

Is named on the extended bench.

I’m not sure why you’d name him if he isn’t going to play, and i’m not sure why you’d play him when it was so clear that Scott said he needs time in the VFL… “when Zach Reid comes back in, he’s coming back for 10 eyars blah blah blah”

Bizarre selection IMO.

Scott said some VFL but not too long

They’d have built him up/ held him back a lot leading into actually getting that VFL game. Then with VFL bye would have had larger workload put into him than if actually played.

He’s either around the mark hence emergency or actually in.

Good match up for Marshall (or the fwd/ruck Teakle) if he does play IMO. We are wayyy undersized vs Port talls (Dixon, Marshall, Teakle/Finlayson) if he doesn’t .

Hopefully untrue. Dud.

Plus he’s not a gorilla. He’s a couple of centimetres taller than Dixon (202 vs 200), but he’s 17 kg lighter. Dixon will just brush him aside.

Hope I’m wrong.

I didn’t say otherwise. I’d be playing Baldwin.

I’d note I don’t necessarily agree young kids need to be ready. As long as it isn’t getting beaten for weeks, and they know it’s to get a taste, I think it can be fine.

All the first part is irrelevant. The point is the bolded part hurts us long term.

Staggering!

But surely he wouldn’t be put on Dixon, even Sheedy wasn’t that cruel - Fletch wasn’t coming back from injury like Reid has been.

Extended bench, could just be som incentive for him and he doesn’t get picked. It is def unexpected, if he’s picked it means they think he’s ready which is great!

Not sure if he’ll make the final side this week but they fkn love this kid.

The VFL bye last weekend is rotten timing, as ideally he’d play a 4 quarter game first (which is why I had him down for a Port return), but it’s great news either way that he’s inching closer.

I’m quite perplexed by the selection of Reid, albeit as an emg. I thought we weren’t rushing him and were taking a long term view. Seems odd.

We do need another tall though so they either they have no faith in Baldwin or his concussion issue was significantly more serious than was initially suspected.

We DO need to bring in a third tall back there though, coz it ain’t Langford.

IMO, we’ve looked our worst defensively any time it’s been left to Rids & just one of Lav/BZT (Saints, Cats, last quarter of Anzac Day).

I’d probably have looked at Montgomerie first (given match fitness & recent form) but they clearly wanna pump as many games into Reid as they can, asap.

Ha! The coaches/selectors.

He’s always named when they talk about our young stars, and IMO they’ve always moved quicker than expected to get him back into the senior side.

I wouldn’t say there’s only two. McKay, Lynch, Buddy, Hogan, Walker, Fogarty and the Kings are all that 100kg mark

They get majority of their ball on the lead though, despite their size. Hawkins and Dixon have game plans designed to leave them one out wrestling with a defender. I’d back Zerk against any of the others.

Edit: maybe not Lynch, that guy kills us.

Seems me to like they had to put in a name to fulfil the Sunday game squad obligations. But even then, name Baldwin as a player who won’t get picked.
