Ah yep, hoping so
And what if 17 other clubs had the same reservations about the 2020 draft and none were prepared to trade, or would only trade at 10 cents in the dollar.
Trades require two parties, not one.
We picked a 188cm forward flanker. We picked a 200cm utility and a 205cm KPB. Only Reid met a need.
Hey call me crazy but I think this guys makes it. His body settles down and play 20+ games next year. 5 years from now he is All Australian.
This point is often made and highlights a misunderstanding. Yes, all KPP are skinny by professional standards. Cox and Reid were skinny by u18 standards. I donāt think you or anyone else is doing it intentionally.
Iām not sure if it ultimately makes a difference. You can be skinny and strong but I wonder if these types of players are more injury prone. Do we often recruit this type of player? If so, how is our track record?
Horses for courses.
If youāre thin and wirey it doesnāt necessarily mean youāll be injury prone. Plenty of examplesā¦
Guys like Dustin and Tuck come to mindā¦ am sure thereās a few more recent examples.
Bar the torn pec, Zachās injuries have been non-contact, so being lean doesnāt really explain his horror run, which actually tells me one of two things, his physiology is not fit for purpose, just not built for footy, or heās a bad rehabber, gets himself only just right to get back on the park but always underdone and instantly re-injuries himself. Little from column A, little from column B for mine.
You definitely crazy, but fingers crossed.
And if we did, probably would have been pick 19 for us and we could have landed Sam De Konig.
Make or break year 2025.
If he breaks down again delist.
Strength is a very important protector from soft tissue injuries. So yeh, being lean absolutely is a factor.
You would think so
Lack of muscle does not mean lack of strength. His muscle is clearly able to support his skeleton. Heās able to run, jump etcā¦. Probably has bad flexibility which strengthens the case that he is bad at preparation and rehab. Heās a young guy, full of testosterone and canāt lift weights and eat protein to gain some muscle? I think Zach isnāt a professional.
We need to bring the start of the season forward, Reid usually does well in the preseason, its jsut the regualr season where he gets injured. Hopefully we agree to be involved in round 0 in 2025.
There is a lot of 2+2=5 in this post.
Interesting counter arguments you offered thereā¦. Ohh waitā¦
Your arguments are -
He can run and jump therefore he is strong.
He is strong therefore he has bad flexibility.
He has bad flexibility therefore he is bad at preparation and rehab.
He is bad at preparation and rehab therefore he is unprofessional.
Essentially what youāre saying is heās unprofessional because he can run and jump.
Omg dude. I said his muscle has strength to move his skeleton and do basic human functions. I said his injuries have primarily been non-contact so that suggests dysfunction. Flexibility is a huge factor in dysfunction. A constantly broken down athlete is probably lifting and not stretching or neither because he canāt. Or his physiology is not suited to sports. Stop nut-hugging these guys who canāt get themselves together.
Wow, this psuedo argument is funā¦
Maybe you can both agree to disagree. At least we can agree that Reid has had a bad time of it, with a range of injuries. The original one from memory was the back stress fracture, which can tend to lead to soft tissue injuries in the hanstrings and groin, which I believe is the path heās had to tread. Then he had the pec, which I would argue has nothing to do with anything except bad luck.
Bad physiology, bad prep, bad luck, bad hair day, I have no idea what has caused it and probably neither do you both, but it is interesting to speculate.
Honestly, I donāt think thatās the case.
Almost no u18 players in the 200cm range have muscle tone/strength worth a damn. Yeah, Cox and Reid were beanpoles, but itās very hard to name kids of that height who arenāt, and when you do, the career results arenāt hugely exciting. Tom Hawkins is the only built 18 yo in the 200cm range can quickly think of whoās really pushed ahead. If youāre too big too young, you tend to rely too much on being bigger than your opponent and struggle against men.
Daniher was a beanpole, so were both the McKays, and Franklin, and Todd Marshall. The Kings were a bit more solid, but jeez, itās hardly translated into durability for them. On the other side of the ledger, Tom Boyd and Jon Patton both had ready made AFL physiques, as did Pat McCartin
If you refuse to draft beanpoles, youāll basically never draft talls at all.
