We definitely drafted for a need here with this bloke despite it looking like we have a heap of tall defenders.

We still have a need for a key back of genuine quality and if this kid is as good as we hear then there is a real spot for him.

Obviously he’ll need another 12-18 months.

If the club is honestly as impressed with Brand as some have reported, don’t be surprised to see Reid get some time up forward.

Where have you heard that the club is impressed with Brand? given his poor fitness, I’d have thought he’d be lucky to survive his current contract

Heard some really promising feedback on the weekend about how the coaches see Brand’s progress.

A mate spoke with one of our recruiting staff at the club and in his discussion with him he said that they are rapt with what they’ve got in Brand. They are pleased with not just his lockdown ability but also his reading of the ball and ability to intercept.

He even went so far as to say that he could (as in ‘capable’ enough to) play at AFL level this year. Obviously he won’t due to the incredible depth we have in that area but it was nice to hear.

I’m more than happy to give Zach another crack in the 1’s this year. If not for the unfortunate timing of his illness, I doubt he would have been dropped after showing quite a bit in that horrible Lions match. I’m actually going to subject myself to that searing gas pain of a replay tonight, just so I can remind myself of how good he looked (and how well he played ).
