#32 - Ben McKay

And that all goes back to CBA attendance after Shiel came back. Add to that no setters who is really our only defensive midfielder. We have a bunch of downhill skiers in the middle. That gets compounded by poor one on one players on the HB line.

His role seemed to shift from lockdown to intercept do whatever you please

Yep.

I am stunned we didn’t give setterfield a go in the 2nd half of the year.

Our midfield was struggling defensively and who do we turn to??? Shiel.

Would have to be the worst defensive mid in the comp.

Scott seriously must deliberately being trying to sabotage, otherwise I don’t know what to say.

First half of the year I thought wow, we’ve got a player here. Said that to a north mate and he chuckled and just said, wait until you lose a couple and he drops his bundle. He was spot on.

If you find that depressing, you should hear what he had to say about Brad Scott…

At least he won’t have the ā€œhighest paid player in the leagueā€ tag anymore.

You can talk all you like about what went wrong in the middle, and I’m not saying it ain’t valid, but seriously
Our backline made a habit of turning relatively straight forward defensive exits into turnover goals.
I’m not expecting them to win every contest but I am expecting a 90% success rate of retaining possession and playing with some endeavour when we do win clean possession.

Let’s face it, our efforts were way too often just embarrassing.

I really don’t believe our midfield can be criticised fairly to that extent.

Our defenders can’t get the ball to our mids. Our mids can’t get the ball to our forwards and our forwards can’t get the ball between the big sticks.

But Ben McKay can get the ball to opposite midfielders to kick goals

Our midfield can’t get off their opponents enough to be the outlet for our defenders. Our fowards cannot work as a group and don’t work hard enough up the field to give each other the space to work into. Our forwards can’t get off their opponents enough to be the target in the forward line.

Maybe we should try him as a crumbing forward

He is good at crumbling under pressure.

Apart from that it’s all tickety-boo

Funnily enough auto correct changed crumbing to crumbling and I had to change it back.

Auto correct is an EFC fan obviously.

I think he took ā€œReplacement to James Stewartā€ to heart

Our defenders can’t even handball it to each other without it going either to ground, straight to the oppo, or to a player in a worse position than they are.

At times it almost looks like they are trying to find the worst option, and seem to be pretty successful at doing it.

Very disappointing this bloke…was pretty good early but awful very often

I thought he was fine on Sat.
Kept Joey reasonably quiet considering how many i50 Brisbane had and defended well.
Just needs to tidy up disposal by hand. He doesn’t have the glaring weaknesses the other defenders have in this side.
Showed he can be a rock back their at times this year, I’m happy we have him.

like half our team fell off a cliff this year.

This guy must be spewing he didn’t pick Hawthorn

He’s just realised he’s missing out on multiple top 4 finishes and likely premierships for 1 or 2 elimination final humiliations at best.

Maybe he was just never that good to begin with

If anyone thinks we essingtoned him, skip to 32 seconds in this clip
