Rob Hardingās comments on Gown at the BBQ were interesting. He said it is difficult for all the key forwards coming out of the TAC cup to adjust to AFL because of the rules of TAC cup which require 4 (I think) players to be in the forward 50 the whole time. This means that key forwards like Gown (and RH cited Schache and Boyd as other examples) canāt play like they did in TAC. They have to get up and down the ground and be mobile targets, rather than park inside 50 and lead into abundant space.
Also short version: TAC cup rules intended to let recruiters have a look at playersā full potential in an atmosphere free of flooding and zoning only succeeds in generating players unprepared for the realities of top level footy.
An Age analysis of new rules, not an especially great one mind you, posited that the 6 6 6 rule would provide more opportunity for one on ones in the f50 and players like Paddy McCartin might benefit. From what I saw of Gownās highlights he was a one on one specialist in the making. I thought he might end up being a Darling type with a touch of Walker, mainly in the strut and do.
yeah maybe in the 80s and 90s but not in 2019 my man, you just get social media mishaps and if they players middling to begin with clubs wonāt persist.
