#33 Hussien “Hussy” El Achkar - documentary out Fri 27/2

Both statements are accurate (imo)…good luck to the young man but he just hasn’t got anywhere near the fitness required to play at AFL level at this stage.

This is probably true, but I’d hate to see him dropped after one game. Give him three or four, and get some better runners (Kako, Guelfi, SEH, Gresham) around him.

I don’t have a problem with him being dropped…as long as it’s clearly explained why..and what the pathway back into the team looks like.

Needs his mate Kako

All pre season Brad was saying how Kako and Huss compliment each other Huss is part of that plan

It was because the five talls were also slow.

Will that make him fitter?

No but it will take some of the load from him

I’m glad he got some exposure at the level but I don’t think it would hurt him to ply his trade in the VFL for a bit while he gets his fitness up to AFL standard.

Sending mixed messages about standards is not a good thing for the young guys coming through.

Well doesn’t sound like he will according to Brad during the pre season wants him to play with Kako

Keep playing him when Kako comes back, I’d even bring in Gresham as well. Wright/May and Perkins out. Far better forward balance. Can manage Huss minutes better with other small options available in the squad.

Why a problem ? Parish, Langford, Perkins and Wright don’t want to work for it, and they’re still getting selected…

What do we really have to lose giving him exposure in the AFL?

He is totally unfit to play AFL. He’s not the only one in the team but it was clear he didn’t want to chase.

Lot of bulldust in preseason about how much running they were doing. Not evident at all. Looks to me like they went easy on the running loads in the preseason

You can’t drop someone after their first game.

Sure you can.

But I wouldn’t. While he might not be AFL fit yet, he at least offers some stuff we need (albeit in shorter bursts). I’d be keeping him in the side, bringing in ALL of Kako (if fit), Guelfi, and Gresham. Can drop whichever of the medium or tall forwards we like to fit them in.

It’s a typical EFC case of hanging a young player out to dry. We knew his strengths and weaknesses, and other teams would have worked hard to give him the opportunity to display his strengths. We leave him in a situation where his weaknesses are exposed. Has been the pattern for years and years.

I didn’t think he was ready to debut but at least he appears to be a small forward that knows how to crumb a pack (an inevitable dropped mark by 2MP)

Yes it would be.

Actions and words not aligning is an EFC trademark at this point.

Huss was out best small forward all pre-season (outside of Kako) but Huss is a more natural crumbing fwd. Just in the right spot most of the time. Yes we are poor list wise in that department but he deserved his chance based on training.

Can he get fitter, sure but I’m confident he will show with more inside 50s that he has it. Can he will improve his conditioning with more pre-seasons.

No harm to give him a month to see what he has, then he can go back to the VFL if need be, but seriously we have nothing to lose by giving him games as long as it doesn’t break his confidence
