#34 - Luamon Lual

Absolutely - such a great mini doco, what a lovely kid he appears to be, so happy for him he deserves a great career.

After watching that you just want Luamon to be happy. And if that means playing AFL then you just want him to make it.

Also wish we drafted George Stevens so these two could hang out and support each other.

The thing I want to know about these NGAs is what exactly did the club do that made it so they got drafted? Like Lual grow up in footy mad country vic and went through all of the classic footy pathways. JUH is the same, like he was ALWAYS going to make it onto an AFL list, what exactly did the dogs do? If they find someone athletic who is 16y/o and has never played the game and get them into the academy then yeah I’d understand.

This is exactly it and the difference between the Victorian academies and northern ones. The Vic clubs a lot of the times don’t put any work in then expect to get the kid cheap as chips. It’s what ruined the nga’s in my opinion.

Add to that as mentioned earlier, situations like north finding out Riley Sanders is 1/20th indigenous a few months ago, then adding him to their academy and expecting to get him. Same with the hawks and jiath.

If the matching bids number is to drop to 20 or lower, it needs to be much better controlled so that clubs actually put effort into a player over years and the player actually comes from a proper multicultural background.

Henceforth he shall be known as Lu Lu, well, by me anyway.

Fun fact: I believe this marks the first time in the history of the VFL/AFL that someone with the name Luamon Lual has been drafted.

Also the only player in history with the first 3 letters of his first name being the same as the first 3 letters of his Surname.

  • This may not be true.
