It wasn’t just that. Dean Wallis, who played I think 130 games in his 14 seasons at Essendon, played all but a handful of games across 1999-2000. John Quinn was the guru and ahead of his time in terms of how he prepared our players.
Ffs. Reckon this year is going to be his best yet.
I like him, but in an ideal world I’d love to see him struggle to get a game. Not due to him declining as a player, but because the likes of the Daveys and Menzie supersede him in the pecking order for small forwards.
Agreed. Ideally Guelfi is a sub-small utility. If he’s your no.1 walk up small forward then your side isn’t going anywhere.
Not even close to the point.
Funny you say that. Here I was thinking how bang average those 8 were as depth for one of the greatest sides we’ve produced. Rioli would have come in for Moorcroft, of course, but Jacobs and McVeigh are the only others who had any decent footy left in them.
Denham was still a pretty good player at AFL level at that stage. He simply got replaced by a younger player in that position (JJ). Prior was very good but squeezed out, probably by Rama. McVeigh only played the one game in 2000, which was the final H&A season match v Collingwood when Sheeds made a host of changes and rested some stars.
Please provide comparative data from other clubs.
worrying thing for me is that it’s not the old blokes.
Parish
Perkins
Wright
Guelfi
Baldwin
Snelling
all calf injuries last year/ this year probably more too
EFA
Settle down Nino.
Will be available round 1 fitness wise or there abouts, wouldn’t worry too much.
Perhaps couple of VFL games at worst.
2 of those were decent, a couple ok and the rest rubbish. And then there was Aaron Henneman.
So not injured, not playing AFL, named for VFL.
Do we include Guelfi in Brad’s list of players who have been injured but are not fully fit for AFL? Or does Brad not rate him? Thinks he’s too much of a party boy?
I’d say there are just others ahead of him atm given his injury setback that others didn’t have. Given some form and KMs in the VFL that might change.
I’d rather we play Davey and give him time over Guelfi who may have a little bit more short term impact.
I love Brad’s approach to no sugar hits. Means that players will earn the positions and everything we be oriented around “the bigger picture”
We’re going to find out the answer to questions like, can Phillips hold down a key forward spot, is Heppell still able to play wing and can Kelly play on the opposition’s best small forward?
guelfi is best 22, he’s just under done coming off a calf. he’ll be back sooner rather than later
So that is why he is playing Phillips, Heppell, Kelly and Langford !!!
