#37 Dylan Alwyn Clarke - at Woodville West Torrens

That’s his best trait for mine. He is jobe/Kennedy like in that regard, and has great awareness of where players are around him to dish it off too. We where in dire need of this.

Yep have to agree, the Redman is going to be a star.

Quickly looking at the exposed stats in a key ratio, handball to kick ratio, it looks like in spite of a perceived relative weakness in the kicking area, his ratio is not too bad for an inside mid. Its early days though.

Clarke 2019 H/K 1.9

Looking at some other stoppage specialists who do not generally achieve high metres gained. ( 2019)

Cunnington 2.26
Oliver 1.89
Kennedy 1.34 ( 2018 ) Inside
Cripps 1.73
Myers 1.06

Now looking at H/K mids with high metres gained ( playing significant minutes on the outside)
Shiel 0.8
Zerret 1.1
Heppell 0.93
Mitchell (2018) 1.18
Kelly 0.64
Kennedy 0.94 ( 2019) More of an outside role

So its clear as stoppage inside mid, we should expect a ratio in the range 1.3 to 2.3 and Dylan Clarke sits a bout midway at the moment, along with Oliver.

There comes a time when any inside mid would like to increase meters gained, but the stoppage roles are just not conducive to that.

Kelly ( Tim) is a seriously good midfielder. He gets the ball on the inside, breaks out of stoppages and kicks the ball himself and picks up a lot of possession in general play.

Wow, that’s a cracking list, particularly for our boys.

I would note many of them weren’t first year players. Even Sir James was in his 3rd year at the Bombers.

As I said, I am sure there were better years than this year (although time will tell) but for the first year players, only one here or there has had a better impact than Walsh, Stack and Rozee have had in 12 games so far.

Congratulations on your rising star nomination. Well deserved Dylan Clarke.

If Clarke keeps this up for the rest of the year, I will happily eat my words.

Bumping this from 2016. Nostradamus lives

He definitely will come to kick more as he develops but currently that’s not what he is in the side for.

He has played his games tagging, constantly aware of the opponent he’s on. Makes it harder for him to run up the ground and kick and means he has to dish off handballs to other blokes who aren’t as focussed on their opponents. I don’t think the ratio is a worry at all considering his current role in the side but when he turns away from tagging he will need to kick more in order to gain metres.

No way Clarke wins the award. Might sneak into the top 5 if he can continue his current output for the rest of the year but Walsh, Rozee are way ahead IMO.

Yep same

Rozee wont win. Im pretty sure hes been omitted a few times

He’s played every game. Has dropped a little in output from how good he was earlier in the season. If he is going to be a chance he’ll have to kick a couple of bags on the run home.

If Elliot Yeo is selected then Clarky would be the perfect match up.

Can go with him in the air, match him for strength and keep up with him all day.

Smith form the Dogs should be top 3, excellent player.

Can he? And that’s a genuine question btw. I haven’t seen anything that says he’s good overhead/leap but my sample size is very, very small.

Half back is the easiest position on the ground though IMO. I doubt Redman would be killing it like he is if playing midfield like clarke and parish are atm, maybe when matured though.

He hasn’t got a vertical leap or any such thing but he has good judgement in the air and can put body contact in.

Clarke was a surprisingly decent mark from the start when he was playing forward (but not a high flyer). As a midfielder it hasn’t been that relevant since his second year.

He played a lot as an intercepting midsized defender in his underage year in the tac cup. Not sure what his skills in a highly contested marking situation are like, but he’s perfectly comfortable with the ball in the air.
