If he plays in round 1, 2027, it will be his first game at AFL level in 20 months. That’s a mighty long lay-off, what a shocking turn of events here.
it could have been 7-10 that would have provided a valuable platform for the off season.
And don’t call me max.
Have you learned nothing about self-reporting?
Failed to specify “dog or higher” in his contract.
Players can return from double ACLs (eg Gawn), though it’s a mighty long road. He’ll psychologically need to get over the fear of a rerupture too which will be one of the most difficult parts.
May well be returning to a very, very different 22 when he next runs out. Half the team may be flipped.
Yep this is my fear too.
Will turn 27 in the early part of the season and will have not played any footy in 20 months. 27 year old with two knee recos is not good at all the game waits for no one and you get left behind missing that much footy.
If i were the club i would be planning for a replacement now. if he was under 25 by the time he returns it’s a different story
How old was Gawn when he did his knee twice?
He was 19 when his 2nd happened. Has shown though that he could get back so Martin has the same opportunity even if older.
Disaster. Not a good start for the Inness regime either.
The graft is a repair the original surgery so it’s not two ACLs, it’s the same one with the graft from surgery after round 18 last year.
This setback is bad for the club but long term it creates more opportunities for others to have impact and when he returns it further increases our midfield depth and balance.
Do you think that it was it a fault with the first surgery or just a result of over exertion? (not trying to apportion blame just curious).
Shiit happens
I seriously doubt he would have been back by round 7/8.
In all seriousness though,
How bad does one need to slip at 4 months post op to reinjure a knee?
4 months is a fairly significant amount of time, I would have thought a simple slip wouldnt cause that much damage at that point.
Graft isn’t at “baseline” til at least 6 months.
There no point in crying over spilt milk. He’s just got to do the rehab, and dairy to dream about 2027.
How bad does one need to slip to rupture a previously uninjured ACL?
Not much if you are unlucky, unfortunately…
There’s a rate of graft failure - it’s just a fact of life. Like any recovering athlete, if he doesn’t exercise for 6 months, he’s not playing professional sport in 12.
I’m putting a line through him, he could’ve been a great player for us, but this injury will probably mean he never reaches the heights. I would love to be proved wrong, please prove me wrong.
It’s so frustrating as a supporter; feels like this injury curse is never lifting.
A while back, an Ortho told me it was a 20% failure rate for ACL. Would this still be the case?
That ■■■■■■■ has gotten off very lightly in this whole thing, he needlessly pushed Martin into the concrete over the boundary line like a fake tough guy and started all of this.
