Careful, you will be called “champ” for daring to correct peoples misinformation.

Hopefully they put him on a wing or in a backline role. It will take the pressure off his knees. I had 3 knee recos by age 21. After changing to playing Hb and Wing I played until I was 44
If he can run straight lines it helps
HB doesn’t suit him unfortunately.
HF suits him best imo but hardest for the knees. A Dempsey-esque goal kicking wingman would be a nice role for him to ease back in before returning to the outside on baller with some confidence in the knee.
I see you still haven’t managed to take that nap.
He wants to play midfield
Based on our very recent good form, I feel this is another good long term decision, and likely one as noted by @Odoyle based on sound reasoning.
He has future Captain written all over him, and we won’t be simply relying on him to be a star player, he will be more important than that.
If you are that worried about Tassie. You give him an extra year and tell him if he plays well then he gets a big new contract from us
If he doesn’t like it and chooses to go to Tassie, so be it
It’s a massive risk to be putting a guy who has done his knee twice on a long term deal
The absolute last thing we need is another Ridley scenario
The three best players are merrett, Ridley and martin. Durham is on the next level.
My view is that some on Blitz only want players on one year contracts which would result in us, not fielding a team. You have to give players security to help build a culture of success.
Jeez, even if he does underperform when he returns, given the state of our list, having him on a long term contract will be the least of our problems. He’s shown enough in his career that you would give him time to regain form, even if it takes a couple of years. He’s absolutely worth the risk, and if we need list spots in the meantime, we have numerous list cloggers who can make way first.
This extension was an obvious decision. Some of these reactions are a bit silly.
It’s unfortunately a byproduct of having a cap floor. If you don’t choose where to spend the money the AFL mandate every player on the list gets a pay bump to meet the floor. It’s a stupid situation.
I think Marto will be one who’ll absolutely thrive under the Spike and Horse combo. You can see he’s committed and wants to achieve things, ever since he snared a spot on the list and then kicked a lazy five goals and 2 brownlow votes on debut in that car crash of a season opener vs Geelong in 2022.
Martin will be our most best player after Merrett leaves however I expect Vigo Visentini to be our number 1 player by end of next season.
Was good that Horse mentioned Vigo in thr players with promise. I hope he is no 1 ruck from round 1, 2MP for backup.
Can we now give him a decent number?
Vigo and 2Mp can rotate Forward/Ruck, Bryan can be back up.
Give him #5
