9 games and only 10 goals.
Barnz is correct here fellas.
They had Langers earmarked to play half back, in a similar role to what Martins doing now.
I was at the Hawks game when they put him there.
No one has said that he wasn’t right about Langers being played down back or earmarked as that. Barnz wasn’t right about the other aspects and his potting of Scott over it.
I never attempted to ascribe a motive to the move, all l said was Scott made the move.
If there was a single assistant who advised to try Langford in defence, I hope they are no longer with us
Doesn’t he make every move that gets made … they don’t just move themselves.
This appears on the surface to be a contradiction of terms.
Nice of you to include the game where he got injured and subbed statless. He kicked 9 goals from his last 6 games in 2022, he was being played in the forwardline.
EDIT: I won’t argue permanently, but he was up there.
Thats not fair.
Brad probably asked do we have any players who we can send to half back and intercept plus kick the footy well.
Langford is a fair call. And having played wing like Martin previously probably would have went ok at it.
Now he has found his spot forward, glad he has been locked in the position.
Not many would have thought he was a 50 goal forward before last year.
Brad is doing really really well on a number of fronts.
I don’t think having an uncanny sense of where a player should play best is one of them.
I think it’s absolutely fair. If you had observed Langford play for several years, seen the evidence that he is a good forward or wingman, and then decided to suggest to the new head coach that he could play in defence, you need to reassess your career choices.
At the time, the only good kicks we had were Merrett, langford, walla
Remember, Wright got injured BEFORE round 1.
I remember Langford kicked 5 in round 2 to win us the game vs Gold Coast.
But I can’t remember if he started in defence that game?
But the choice is probably as much about “best for team” as anything else.
The fact Martin is now addressing that need when many continue to say he is best forward or wing, reflects that fact.
I think the most important thing is that Brad is not so stubborn as to stick with his forays in the face of good evidence that an alternative course of action is better. it’s okay to trial ideas, otherwise you never know what you might be missing out on.
It was actually a Weidman injury that sent Langford forward round 2.
It was Brad’s reluctance to play VOSS to cover for Weideman round 2 that sent Langford forward.
Forwardiest Forward to ever Forward.
And there was a reason he was reluctant and was moved on. The club has just never said what it was.
But how is having a 50 goal a year forward playing off half back best for team?
I think it was just a terrible call to begin with.
I always thought he was clearly a forward, although he was certainly handy on the wing.
What he never was, ever, and should never have been trained as, ever, was an inside mid.
I doubt half back would have been his spot either, but thankfully we didn’t have to find out.
