#40 - Zak Johnson

And that we’ve seen with Tsatas.

I dunno if that’s giving brad too much credit, when has he ever protected young players and their development? Look at when he continually sent up adj in his first two years completely outta his depth and adw this year. How those two were getting a long string of games in year 1 was astounding, they weren’t even playing well at vfl level like Johnson had been.

4 games is a long string ?

It wasn’t even 4 games in a row. Day-Wicks played 2 games, then had a week off, then 1 game, 1 game as sub, 1 game subbed off. 5 games in 6 weeks averaging 52% TOG.

You’ve got to give it to Scott, not many coaches can screw around young players’ development by not giving them a chance in the seniors while simultaneously throwing them to the wolves by giving them a chance in the seniors.

There’s always the exceptions

5 games when you’re completely outta your depth is. Especially when there are better options on the sidelines being overlooked.

Vigo seems to be avoiding the long string

I typically like in a row two games, max 3 for those young guys that aren’t yet up to it. Just to show them what afl level is like, but not to break their confidence, or affect the team’s performance.

The Vigo development process seems to be close to your manifesto.

Strange take, i literally just said i like 2 or max 3 games in a row for guys outta their depth to give them a taste then back to the vfl. 1 in 1 out gives no continuity.

I must say I was annoyed every time Redman got the uncontested kick from the defensive half after Johnson was doing the contested work to get it out to him.

I’d rather have Johnson set up as the outside receiver and have the mature player doing the hard stuff

Agree, that’s poor coaching.

In order to actually be able to field 23 players, we have no doubt played several players before they are ready for AFL level. Its unfortunate but we also have 4 players taken in desperation at the mid season draft who we need to evaluate. Zac Johnson is definitely more up to the level than Lual in terms of being a natural footballer, but Lual definitely needs more time to learn positioning on the field, but Lual has outstanding athletic attributes.

I don’t understand why Zak has been omitted this week. Not even an emergency.

He was far from the worst player last week.

Kicking skills are not Brad’s thing.

Ask Massimo.

Would it say managed if he was sore?

Someone had to make way for Nguyen - Zak drew the short straw.

Yes coz they couldn’t drop Gresham or Perkins and move someone else forward. Not with Brad - gotta drop the kids first!!

Maybe the young bloke’s short on stamina and needs a rest (again) ?
