An Essendon insider close to the Bombers’ recruiting department told ESPN the club knew McNiece’s tenuous eligibility and saw the 25-year-old as a “free pick”, with Category B selection not requiring a handover of draft picks.
Ummm, … does any FKN Rookie pick require any FKN draft picks??
Did we pull a shifty? No…
Did we exploit one of the AwFuL’s incessant loopholes to suit ourselves? Fkn oath we did…
Would any other club have done it if they’d thought of it? Fk yes…
Should we apologise for it? Fk no!!!
No mass outrage yet about this. maybe give him a few more games where he plays really well and the Gerard Healys, SWWNBN’s and the Damian Barretts will latch on and start sooking.
If he turns out to be anywhere near as valuable as what Baguley has been then we’re very lucky. Not expecting too much from him in an attacking sense just yet. Like McGrath, will try beating his man first and then as his confidence grows we’ll start seeing this weapon kick we’ve been hearing about.
To be fair, the article doesn’t say we’ve done anything wrong. It just questions the rule. Which given it is pretty stupid, is something I’d be fine with changing for the future.
Just like I’m pretty annoyed North may be getting a pretty talented kid in 2018 via their “academy” because he’s indigenous and in Tasmania, despite him being in the system for years and identified as a prospective talent. Happy for that loophole to be closed ASAP as well. And GWS getting access to the Riverina.
“Loophole” = “Someone used a rule exactly how it was written which does not align with my exact set of morals/principles which I think the rule should have been written”
