Don’t we have the wings and half back positions covered with younger players already?
He has played very well at half-forward previously.
Plus has more speed, attacking flair, footskills than any other non key position player (besides kako).
I can understand why he wasn’t picked tonight.
Coming off a 5 day break after a 6 week hammy.
Well I hope that is the reason because I certainly can’t think of any reason why he wouldn’t be playing
his first game back in the vfl a few weeks back seemd to be predominantly half forward and he played quite well though i didn’t watch the whole game. He’s strong and brave in the air, he has pace and evasive skills and knows how to change angles when kicking (hobbs has zero of these qualities). I thought he could have been selected last week honestly.
I guess our selection policy really highlights these issues when the likes of Perkins gets a game all year until he is finally dropped, plays a mediocre game at VFL level and comes straight back in.
No idea why he resigned with us, the writing was on the wall that this is his future under Brad.
Someone like Norf or Fark Carlton would love him and his attacking nouse. Heck even the Saints could use his skill set in the forward half
Perkins has been mediocre and El-Hawli has been mediocre.
Thats the problem with our team - 20% are great and 10% are obviously not to standard so these players are no brainers to be in (or not, in for the later) the side.
The remaining 70% of players are mediocre and you can mount arguments for any of them to be either in the team or not in the team on any given day - it’s a raffle as to how they might play on any given day.
a bird in the hand. presumably he hadn’t had much interest from else ware so he snapped up the deal. no reason he can’t seek a trade
It’s a real head-scratcher mate.
Perhaps he’s been punished/taught how he has to play after he had a couple of bad moments in that Bulldogs smashing.
There’s always the possibility of some kind of culture issue but Saad seems like he’s not one to get in trouble.
So I don’t know.
8 great players and 4 obviously not to standard is the most upbeat post I’ve seen on blitz in weeks.
He’s coming back from an injury and has played two VFL games. Maybe they recognise there will be plenty of chances to play in the final 6-7 rounds and don’t want to play him before he’s fully fit?
The problem is that people have high expectations. He was a mid-season draft pick. Yes we have had some success with the mid season draft picks, but to expect they will all be guns based on VFL form is crazy.
seriously, the outrage! No one will come knocking for Saad, he’s contracted till the end of 2026 anyway. Just came back from a hammy, so many of our players are coming back and pinging them when they return. The pace of the game at AFL compared to VFL is huge and another game in the VFL won’t hurt him, especially as we are probably going to cop a mauling.
Hopefully Gresh, Perkins and Guelfi perform well for the rest of the year and we can offload them at season end.
I would have loved to see him as an in.
Brad really does like physicality at the contest and this is one area he could, and has been improving. Lual for example doesn’t shirk a contest. Robert’s and Duz are elite. Smartt loves it too.
Our least contested players are Davey, Unwin and El-Hawli
None of them are playing
El-Hawli made the emergency list so is closest
As I mentioned in another thread, if he played tonight and blew out his hammy there’d be the “why did we play him with a short break”. You can’t please everyone.
Possibly.
Ridley missed 8 weeks also with a hamstring but came straight back in.
I think 2 VFL games are more than enough for Saad.
I did take a few moments to choose my adjectives.
This is where it’s pretty clear SEH knows what he needs to work on, accepts where he is in the current pecking order, is clear about the feedback he is receiving from the coaches and is willing to work his way through the issues and work up the pecking order
Maybe this is also an indication that what we see externally is not the same as other teams see externally (even with their privied information).
Then again, maybe this shows SEH is a poor decision maker and should be delisted. Maybe he just has poor agent representation.
Do you actually watch games ?
