What are we waiting for with Jayden? Showed heaps as a small defender in first season. I’ll be pi55ed if we cut him.

I think someone said it’s not us holding it up but Jayden. Apparently Richmond are circling.

Yeah congrats on posting it’s been a long stint without doing so!

Yep I’d also comfortably keep Nguyen over Unwin if that was the choice

Has One Nation infiltrated the list management operations at Essendon?

Really thought he’d be the exact type of player that McVeigh would love and would have been re-signed straight away.

That would suck

Wouldn’t surprise me if we have only offered him one and another club has offered him two and he is trying to figure out what to do

It feels like the Mass situation all over again. re signing is such a no brainer

add Draper to that list

losing nguyen and keeping unwin and perkins would be essendon

there was a moment in the vfl final, hff, he makes about 25 desperate attempts not to lose the contest in a half minutes. was just elite level uhhhhhhh and very not essendon like.

You’re right we have so many absolute spuds still on the list that shouldn’t even be playing AFL level anymore and have been given a million chances, it would be very annoying if Nguyen gets cut.

EFC, please see some sense and hold on to this guy.

Yep, around $50K less per season as the minimum salary.

Those are only minimums though.

With our dogshit list, we could afford to pay him a million if we wanted.

RE-SIGNED BABAY

Jayden Nguyen will remain with Essendon as a Category B Rookie for the 2027 AFL season.

The 20-year-old will continue into a third season with the Club that’s served as his ā€˜home away from home’ for the past five years as a former member of the Essendon Next Generation Academy.

Nguyen made history after officially signing on as a rookie for 2025, becoming the first ever player of Vietnamese descent to debut in the AFL when he took the field against the Swans in round 21.

His lockdown effort on Tom Papley highlighted the tenacity and ferocious attack on both footy and opponent which paved his path into the big time.

A move into the forward line added a new string to Nguyen’s bow this year and it bore fruit in some confident VFL showings, thriving as a pressure forward and bringing Windy Hill to its feet on several occasions in a brilliant performance during the Elimination Final win over Williamstown.

General Manager of List and Recruiting Matt Rosa heaped praise on Nguyen for his continuing development.

ā€œJayden’s constant application to improvement has been terrific in his first couple of seasons and we’re excited to see that roll on into next year,ā€ Rosa said.

ā€œHe’s got a willingness to take the game on and use his speed but also has a real competitive streak in him which has translated well to his VFL performances as a pressure forward.

ā€œWe’re confident Jayden can continue to develop his game and be an asset as he continues to develop his forward craft.ā€
