Personally i would have Walla start a pre season again when calf is right and make sure he is right to go from about round 8 onwards. If he can finish the 2nd half of year fit and firing… that will go a long way to us going well at the business end of the season. We did ok in manufacturing goals this year when he was out. Langford for me is close to top 5 most important player in our team with his genuine scoring flexibility. He finds space really well up forward and is deadly with accuracy. Not discounting Baldwin’s mobility and Francis much improved fitness. Theres no rule you have to play a small player… you need mobile players that constantly are on the move and can apply defensive pressure.

Considering that he’s only ever good for half a year, saving him for the back half of the year makes sense.

he is still a professional athlete who should be taking care of himself. If this was the first time it’s happened- you give him the benefit of the doubt. But it’s not

Personally, I’m not sure its really that simplistic in this case, but to each their own.

When Stringer did his calf last preseason, he was doing low intensity laps almost immediately.

There’s no reason Walla can’t work on his tank during the recovery period. But he will miss out on high speed and change of direction work.

I think he’ll miss 2-3 rounds, play a bit of vfl for match conditioning. I fully expect him to be in the 22 for the Dreamtime game.

If he’s struggling mentally then his job is irrelevant. You have literally ■■■■ all of an idea what he’s going through so it’s best to lay off the criticism.
