Racist!
Our best small forward ever!?
And @Humble_Minion.
In all fairness I think @Reboot mainly questioned his fitness when he was playing vfl.
The crowd went so nuts when he kicked his 6th goal you would’ve thought that it was the match winner. That’s how popular he is.
I like this thread better. Dont think I called him VFL standard in this one
Egg
Face
Massively over-rating our list. Tippa is nowhere near elite, not even decent
Raz and Conor and Saad are not elite either
You looking for this chestnut from the Lid Off thread??
Well owned though @rossoneri
No, because it’s in the lid on thread for a reason, you need to get up to speed with that thread and the lid off thread.
Pretty sure in the other Tippa thread (?) I said he was VFL standard at best
Those goals in the last quarter you just knew he would win the one on one and goal. He is my favourite Essendon player. What a legend.
His 5th goal was incredible. Got the ball on the HBF and kept running all the way and ended up with the free kick. Great kick too
Best kick in the team, at goal or in general play. Just doesn’t waste it. After 12 possessions and 0 goals across the first 2 games he has responded superbly. The way we play we get a lot of “over the back” goals and Walla is going to get a lot of those. He just makes you smile when he gets the ball, the reception he gets whenever he goes anywhere near it is at Longy levels.
He had point assists . Not his fault others can’t kick straight .
His kicking both field and goal never seems to go out of touch. Thats been consistent with him since day one.
Just needed to find a way to get his hands on enough footy.
Did that today and wow.
He’s amazing.
43 is the perfect number for him
I don’t think I have seen a player execute the drop punt on the run as good as this bloke.
He just doesn’t miss when kicking for goal.
It was like shelling peas to him.
I have not seen a more complete performance from a small forward in my lifetime.
It’s seriously so damn good to be watching him playing AFL so well. I’d legit given up on him ever getting a gig as soon as we drafted Eades. I’m sure Ben’s in the same boat, but it’s kinda strange, it feels like I’ve been watching him for an entire career already, but he’s really only just begun.
He’s always been one of my favourites. I watched this little fat bloke play under Heppell in the 2010 Gippy Power’s incredible finals run, which could be the most amazing and inspirational streak of games I’ve ever seen and it sucks that there’s so few other people who remember it for me to reminisce with, and I saw him add spark and creativity to a side that sometimes lacked it, even if he only got 13 touches a game. I was so glad when he got another go as an overager for Gippy the next year, and he alternated between kicking 3 a game in the forward line and running off half back taking multiple bounces in the slush and howling gales at Oakleigh or wherever, and you could just see the talent but it was trapped in a body that could only play 50% game time before running out of puff. And I read the stuff Emma Q wrote about him and realised he moved to Gippsland without even speaking English, and it just blew my mind about how hard he’d worked for his chance.
I argued for years with people on here and bf that yeah sure he was short (but he was talented enough that it didn’t matter) and fat (but he was incredibly dedicated to footy and would blossom in a professional environment). I was so damn rapt when EFC gave him a VFL gig, by that point I’d have been hapopy for him to get a game anywhere, but to see hima bomber was just awesome. Then I saw him do some amazing things at VFL level and I had hopes going into the 2014 season he’d be drafted, but he got clotheslined by Ben ■■■■■■ Hudson and missed most of the year, and I thought his chance had nearly gone. He got his chance last preseason when playing as a top-up, but didn’t really show what he was capable of. I’d given up hope on him last year, he played some good footy and had some unbelievable highlights but I figured the club had basically put him in the ‘good VFL player’ basket, especially when we drafted Eades ahead of him last year. When we finally picked him, I didn’t really believe it. and to see him playing so well now, it’s incredible. A bloke dealing with the sort of culture shock he did coming down from Tiwi - I’m not sure any other club could have done it. Hawthorn tried and failed with Frank. Everyone knows about Melbourne and Jurrah. Richmond has tried many, many times and only left a trail of alienated kids and shattered dreams in their wake. And we did it in the worst possible circumstances. Makes you pretty proud of the club, and incredible proud of the kid himself. And I have to keep reminding myself this is only the beginning.
I’ve been draftwatching for quite a few years now. You get your favourites, and it’s awesome when they go well but sucks when they end up at another club. And there’s the blokes who everyone knows are going to go early and be guns (Heppell), but the ones that really get stuck in your head are the blokes who go later, the guys who have everything against them. They’re just better stories. But they don’t always have happy endings. Poor ■■■■■■ Michael Mascoulis was a favourite of mine, got rookied by WCE and then killed in a car crash. Alex Johnson, who’s done knee after knee (but has a flag to go with it, so probably can’t complain), and Alex Woodward, who’s done knee after knee WITHOUT any flags. Lin Jong’s another one who’s had to earn every chance he’s gotten. Glen Grgic and Courtney Hylton and many others who never got drafted at all. Tippa’s always been right up there on my list of favourites. To see him take the long road to the AFL, to see him play for the bombers, and to see him play so well in such cruddy circumstances - it’s pretty damn special and pretty damn personal.
May this be only the beginning.
A highlight from a few years back.
A gut running Walla… somebody hold me.
Poetry today.
I wonder if mentoring Mossie has helped him step it up to this new level. I’m really looking forward to watching those 2 boys play a game together.
It’s amazing to think back and whenever he lines up on those tight angles, I don’t get stressed out at all, he just gives you confidence he will kick the goal every time.
I haven’t felt that sure about an EFC player kicking goals from anywhere for a long time.
I think this is our biggest since Carlisle kicked 8 against the Bulldogs in 2014.
Has kicked 11 goals 1 behind from set shots this year.
On triple m they were saying he goes at 70% for his career which is better than Lockett
